A crescente urbanização sem um planejamento eficaz fez e faz com que a degradação ambiental aumente e afete de certa forma a qualidade de vida da população. É certo que essas modificações realizadas pela sociedade no meio urbano, em especial, resultam em graves problemas ambientais, tais como: o aumento das precipitações, a poluição do ar, a queda na umidade relativa do ar, as enchentes, os deslizamentos, o aumento da temperatura do ar, gerando assim um novo clima local - o clima urbano. Esses problemas são percebidos com maior intensidade nas metrópoles, entretanto, as populações de cidades de médio e pequeno porte também já sofrem de tais mazelas. Todos esses problemas estão relacionados com o clima urbano e os elementos que mais influenciam no cotidiano do citadino são a temperatura e a umidade do ar, que provocam o desconforto térmico. Assim, o objetivo principal do presente estudo foi analisar a temperatura e a umidade relativa do ar, para se detectar possíveis diferenças nesses elementos e diagnosticar a geração do clima urbano em Cândido Mota/SP, cidade de pequeno porte, localizada no oeste do Estado de São Paulo. Para tanto, a pesquisa se pautou nas proposições teórico-metodológicas de Monteiro (1976), que sinaliza para uma análise sistêmica do clima urbano, integrando o natural e o social. Primeiramente, foi realizada a classificação do uso e ocupação do solo urbano, com imagens de satélites e trabalhos de campo. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Due to the intensification of the urbanization, with the emergence of the Industrial Revolution, the changes of the environment were stronger and, consequently, their problems were compounded. The growth of the urbanization, without an effective planning, has made and makes that the environmental degradation increases and, somehow, affects the quality of life of the population. It is true that these changes made by the society in the urban environment, particularly, result in some serious environmental problems, such as: the increase of the precipitation, the air pollution, the drop in the relative humidity, the floods, the mudslides and an increase of the air temperature, thus, it is created a new local climate - the urban climate. These problems are realized with a greater intensity in the metropolises; however, the population in the cities with medium and small size is also already suffering with them. All these problems are related to the urban climate and the elements which most influence people's daily lives: the temperature and the relative humidity. They are the responsible to cause the thermal discomfort. Thus, the main objective of the present study was to analyze the temperature and relative humidity, in order to detect the possible differences in these elements and to diagnose the origin of the urban climate in Cândido Mota/SP, a small town located in the western of São Paulo/Brazil.
