Orientador: Paulo Roberto Teixeira de Godoy / Banca: Manoel Fernandes de Sousa Neto / Banca: Fadel David Antonio Tuma Filho / Resumo: A proposta deste trabalho recai sobre o papel desempenhado pelos recursos iconográficos, ao atuarem como mediadores na construção de um discurso visual e na eleição de seus protagonistas dentro de uma perspectiva teóricometodológica do materialismo histórico e dialético, tomando-se como base o entendimento de classe social e visão do mundo Para a abordagem, escolhemos como objeto de estudo as aquarelas produzidas pelo desenhista e pintor francês Hercule Florence (mais tarde considerado como um dos precursores da invenção da fotografia no mundo e pioneiro no Brasil) ao ser reconhecido como aquele que melhor respondeu às exigências como artista contratado para integrar a Expedição Langsdorff, organizada pelo naturalista, médico e cônsul russo, de origem germânica Georg Heinrich von Langsdorff, ao percorrer o Brasil, no período de 1822 a 1829, dentro do propósito das viagens de caráter cientificista do século XIX, sob a influência humboldtiana. Seu conjunto de desenhos não somente atendeu aos princípios estéticos, como levou, ao mesmo tempo, as culturas a se reconhecerem, estabelecendo seus valores de supremacias e poder, tornando-os documentos responsáveis pela edificação de um imaginário visual mitótico do herói epopeico, presente na literatura clássica. Envolto num cenário fantástico - no caso o tropical - das chamadas terras do novo mundo, reafirma os interesses expansionistas do grupo social, ou ainda, daqueles que se veem como aliados defensores em legitimar plasticamente seu discurso, no caso o ideal cientificista difundido pela elite européia do século XIX. A reprodução exaustiva dessas imagens desassociadas de seu entendimento complexo perpetua a vigência dos interesses e visão do mundo de uma classe social que se torna atemporal / Abstract: The proposal of this work is to make a critical analysis in the use of resources, iconographic, taken as a legitimadores of entrepreneur speech made scientific expeditions by Europeans in the 19th century in Brazilian territory. Having as its object of study, the drawings and engravings of Hercule Florence, painter and designer hired to Langsdorff Expedition, conducted and funded by the Russian Tsar, Alexander I, to cover the interior of Brazil from 1821 to 1829.The research of this episode seeks to illustrate a practice of registering and cataloguing of real-world scenarios, where the techniques for linking of images and angles focused on "portraits" produced in loco the false appearance of "epic" successful, present in European literature and the imaginary traveller.In fact, this mechanism to document exhaustively natural scenarios signified the sovereignty of foreign travellers, in the appropriation of spaces little exploited of the so-called "new world". Illustrations which, in turn, serve as sources of isolated readings, witnesses, have strong appeal of seduction and plastic at the same time operating, of the true faces of spaces.The intent of this research thus becomes an opportunity to reflect on, possible readings, of anxieties experienced between science and art. Where these artists to a larger ideological goal, remains divided between the exercise of the practice and creating responsive, revealing a reality built opposite the apparent plasticity of his speeches.In the case, building and implementing a speech commissioned, showered by scientism, which at the same time it remains linked to I creative and the artist's own interests, which led, subsequently.Taking yet, as relevant to this work a reflection of how such documentation built an image of the nation, along with European countries, as well as this scenario plasticity parasídiacos guided an entire literature and studies about the reality of the new territories, within ... / Mestre
