Lärarens ledarroll i klassrummet och vilka faktorer som påverkar : En studie i två högstadieskolor, årskurs 7, 8 och 9

This exam work project strives to investigate different roles a teacher can adapt to in classroom situations. The focus is on three different types, gained from a dissertation made by Evelyn Säll where she has investigated teacher students’ opinions about the teacher’s role. These types are: the Dramatist, the Director and the Illuminator, and five teachers are defined accordingly. Questionnaires and observations are used as a tool in order to come to a conclusion. Both teachers and pupils have answered questionnaires. The observations have been conducted on both teachers and pupils in order to look at different elements that can affect the teacher’s role. The different elements that can affect the role are from two studies made by Martyn Denscombe and Philip Jackson. From the perspective of these elements, an observation is made and the teachers’ response to these elements gives further perspective to the teachers according to Säll’s categories. However, from the viewpoint of the five teachers, the conclusion is made that Säll’s categories are obsolete and cannot be used to define a modern-day teacher. Most teachers today are a little bit of all categories at the same time, depending on the situations arising in different classes and in different lessons.
