Honor-related violence occurs in cultures that have patriarchal structures. In many countries, usually middle eastern, honorary standards are accepted. Families and relatives have the right to control, punish and in some cases murder girls and women if they have violated the honorary standards. The thesis aims to find out what honor-related violence and oppression is and what difficulties there are in the social work with girls and women that has experienced honor-related violence and oppression. The study is based on qualitative interviews with social workers that has years of work experience with the honor-related violence and oppression cases and research related to the research topic.  The study shows that honor-related violence and oppression particularly affects girls and women. Honor-related violence and oppression is since there is a superiority and subordination among men and women where men have the control. The difficulties that occur is lack of knowledge about honor-related violence and oppression and the uncertainty in what to do in honor-related cases.
