Vilken historia förmedlas? : En analys av läromedel för tyska i årskurs 9 / What History is Presented? : An analysis of textbooks for German in grade 9

This study examines which historical themes that occur in four textbooks used to teach German in grade nine in Sweden. The study also examines the presentation of the historical themes in said textbooks. The methods used consist of the factual textanalysis and the critical discourse analysis. The results show that the identified historical themes focus on the history of Germany and the historical period from the first world war to the reunification of Germany. The results also show that thetextbooks have different presentations of different historical themes. Some historical themes that are presented in similar ways across the textbooks are however that resistance is illuminated in descriptions of Nazism and that famous historical persons are positively described. In light of the results, the conclusions, among others, are that the textbooks use a careful description of Nazism but a positive description of German culture.
