"Is transformational leadership in quality management the appropriate connection to high performance in leading and output?"

In this research the effects of quality leadership on performance were investigated and analysed. The relationship between quality management and leadership has not been greatly investigated. More specifically the transformational leadership-style was investigated in order to understand its influences and possible relationships with several performance factors, especially quality performance. To achieve this, a survey in the OM area, mainly in the German automotive industry, was undertaken. This enabled the link between transformational leadership and several defined performance factors to be measured. These results were then compared with the outcomes of qualitative methods, namely interviews and observation. The main finding of the study is that there is a significant relationship between transformational leadership and quality performance. These results and conclusions provide guidance for persons with leadership responsibility in the areas of quality performance, operating department, human resource and leadership performance.
