M.Cur. / The purpose of this study is to determine the experiences of mothers during the post natal period. Secondly the need of a post natal consultation service was determined. The service would be applicable for mothers who have had their confinement at the specific hospital and would be available for two weeks after discharge. Unstructured, in-depth interviews were held with five mothers on approximately six weeks after discharge and were described and analyzed. The Nursing of the Whole Person theory was applied to ensure a wholistic approach to parents. A literature control was undertaken in order to determine if the results compared with data available. Conclusions and recommendations regarding the nursing practice and research were made.
