[pt] Esta tese contém uma análise comparativa das oportunidades de homens e mulheres no mercado de trabalho no Brasil. A tese está baseada no cadastro da RAIS - Relação Anual de Informações Sociais - do ano de 1976, publicado pelo Ministério do Trabalho. Um grande diferencial de salários é identificado e várias variáveis, além do sexo, são testadas como a possível variável explicativa. Conclui-se que o sexo é a variável responsável pelo grande diferencial de salários encontrado. / [en] This thesis contains a comparative analysis between men and women’s opportunities in the Brazilian labor market. It is based on the information published by the Ministry of Labor in the RAIS - Relação Annual de Informações Sociais - for the year of 1976. A large wage differential is identified and some variables, other than sex, are tested as the possible explanatory variable. It is concluded that the large wage gap is explained by the sex variable.
