Modern electronic products have been changing rapidly, improving our daily life with better comfort and safety. The product reliability mostly dependent on the components used in the product. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors (Al-Ecaps),which is used for energy storage filter noise reduction, and coupling functions, are key passive components in any electronic and electrical circuits. Howerver , it is also one of the most unstable components. Therefore, how to prevent early failure is becoming an important operation strategy for Al-Ecaps manufacturers in order to expand their market share. Lean six sigma (LSS) has been applying in industries for many years. This research is to apply the LSS methodology to improve Al-Ecap failure rate continuously leading to zero defects target. The case company is a well-known Al-Ecap manufacturer in central Taiwan. The six-sigma DMAIC process, integrated with several quality management tools was applied to improve the failure rate of a pilot LSS project. The result shows that LSS really can improve the effectiveness of scrap and enhance the production yield continuously, leading to the target of zero defect.
