The aim of this theoretical and empirical thesis is to analyse the term of self-education and related issue, which are further developed in theory and philosophy of education, psychology and sociology. In the first part the thesis concentrates on theoretical concepts of self-education and their development in selected historical periods. The thesis accentuates a contemporary understanding of self-education and its aspects influencing the concept and practice of self- education in current society. Through several case studies in the empirical part, the thesis attempts to demonstrate personal, educational and experiential diversity backgrounding the contemporary concept of self-education. In conclusion, some options as well as difficulties of an individual self-education in contemporary society will be reflected. This diploma thesis elaborates on the topic of informal learning within volunteering activities with children and youth. It is based on the concept of lifelong learning and describes characteristics of informal learning and volunteer work. It pays attention to types of motivation for volunteering and shows the possibilities of informal learning within volunteering activities with children and youth. The empirical research uses the questionnaire to examine the forms of self-directed learning. In particular, it examines the areas in which the self-directed learning is most frequently carried out and the impact of the most frequently held function on choice of areas of self-directed learning. The research also focuses on the impact of reciprocal motivation on the proportion of self-directed learning realized within volunteering activities and on the perception of selected activities as the source of new incentives and information. The ending part of the thesis contains interpretation of results and recommendation for future research in the field.

This master's thesis Multimedia support of teaching mathematics aims at supporting teachers in introducing innovations in teaching and support in their own teaching materials. It is dedicated to supporting the pupil in self-education. It also serves as an overview of selected resources to support the use of technology and software in teaching. This master's thesis includes examples of the use of mathematical programs in mathematics classes, and a proposal to engage pupils in teaching, by implementing the "Teach Your Fellow" project, which aims to create learning videos for pupils.
