The carbon prepreg used for manufacturing of the monocoque was to be operated at high temperatures. Therefore, this thesis deals with the application of composites structures in the high temperature environment. The thesis addresses the torsional stiffness problematics and it was not only physically tested, but also simulated by FEM analysis and the results were compared.

As illness becomes increasingly more common in the United States and across the globe, the need for better and faster medical treatment is greater than ever. The purpose of this work is to evaluate advanced polymers and polymer composites that will provide for increased fluid flow while maintaining outer dimensional, stiffness, and burst resistance characteristics when compared to a currently used material. A polymer configuration consisting of a proprietary formulation that has a durometer approximately 10% higher than the current material with an outer wall thickness of approximately .020" passed a series of tests involving tensile strength, stiffness, flexural fatigue resistance, vacuum lumen collapse resistance and hydraulic burst resistance. This material configuration passed the requirements for applicable test standards and had a tensile strength 13.4% less than the control group, was 52.7% stiffer, did not sustain any noticeable wear or defects during the flexural fatigue test, had a tensile strength 14.8% less that the control group during a post flex fatigue tensile test, did not burst when 150 psi was applied to it for 5 seconds, and is estimated to have a 43% higher flow rate capacity than the current material.

The main purpose of this diploma thesis is to design turbocharger rotor using rolling element bearings. The diploma thesis is compiled from two specialized search parts dealing with turbocharger rotor and rolling element bearing computation, respectively. The application of the particular rotor using the multi body system Adams – View is described in the following chapter. In the last chapter, one can find the comparison between rotor using bearing with steal and hybrid ceramic rolling element. Also, there is compariosn between rolling element bearing and journal bearing. In the maximum rotor speed, the decrease of more than 50 % in power loss, due to usage of rolling element bearing, resulted from this comparison.

The project deals with frame corners in the form of steel and composite reinforcement which will compared through experiments and various kind of calculate proceedings. The secondary part of thesis focuses on the static-design project of cooling reservoir, placed under the ground, while is stressed by temperature. The reinforcement of the construction is realized in two ways – steel and composite reinforcement with their effectivity compared.

A tailored integration scheme is developed to treat stiff reaction-diffusion prob- lems. The construction adapts a stiff solver, namely VODE, to treat reaction im- plicitly together with explicit treatment of diffusion. The second-order Runge-Kutta- Chebyshev (RKC) scheme is adjusted to integrate diffusion. Spatial operator is de- scretised by second-order finite differences on a uniform grid. The overall solution is advanced over S fractional stiff integrations, where S corresponds to the number of RKC stages. The behavior of the scheme is analyzed by applying it to three simple problems. The results show that it achieves second-order accuracy, thus, preserving the formal accuracy of the original RKC. The presented development sets the stage for future extensions, particularly, to multidimensional reacting flows with detailed chemistry.

Identification of Physical Changes to a Steel FrameMeans, Daniel Eric 01 February 2010 (has links)
The thesis utilized physical testing and computer modeling to determine the feasibility of identifying a change to the mass or stiffness of a steel frame. Physical testing was performed using an accelerometer, linear shaker, and arbitrary function generator. Two methods of laboratory testing were developed: ambient vibration testing (AVT) and forced vibration testing (FVT). AVT was able to preliminarily identify the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the frame. FVT was able to precisely identify four distinct natural frequencies, mode shapes, and damping ratios. The baseline frame then underwent two physical changes: the addition of mass to its roof, and the addition of braces along one of its sides. FVT was used again to determine the natural frequencies, mode shapes, and damping ratios of the newly changed structure.
An ETABS computer model was developed to represent the frame. This baseline model produced natural frequencies and mode shapes that closely matched the values determined by FVT. The mass and stiffness of this baseline model were then changed multiple times through the addition of mass and braces at various locations on the model. The frequencies and mode shapes were recorded for each change.
Two methods were developed to identify the changes to the steel frame. The first method was able to determine which one of the models best represented a single change to the structure (adding mass to its roof). The second method was able to determine the combination of models that best represented the two concurrent changes to the structure (adding mass to its roof and braces to its sides). Both methods utilized the percent differences of each altered computer model relative to the original, and each method satisfactorily identified its respective physical alteration.

A vehicle will serve for testing combustion engines of the same conception and thus it is not intended to run on public roads.
