The growing specialization of the space in the city, the changes on the ways of entertaining towards closed places, the growing use of vehicles, the current urban life conditions, show the alterations on the ways of appropriation of open spaces, highlighted in several studies as the lack of interest for squares and open public spaces. The squares and alleys of the traditional city centre of Mogi das Cruzes and the open spaces of the expanded centre contrast on the dimensions and on the ways of appropriation; and; those spaces are analyzed within an dialectical reading, both global and local, of the changes and permanence of the appropriations, alterations and transformations of the system of objects, as much as, the system of actions. During the process of reading, the body develops a fundamental role and has as its base the phenomenology of perception. Analyzed and compared ,the open spaces of the traditional city centre reveal themselves as places for the exhibition of pluralities , stage for actions and words for current and past actions in daily life; their meaning as important spaces for social quotidian living. The open spaces of the expanded city centre are not presented as places that constitute the public sphere of life; however, they bare possibilities of insertion of meanings and social, cultural and symbolic values. In the current world, where the population is becoming more and more urban, besides, and especially, because of the alienating condition imposed by the globalization, providing spaces that may host the public sphere of life are even more necessary and it is related to the quality of life for the inhabitants of a city. / Este trabalho tem como objetivo a an?lise dos espa?os livres p?blicos centrais da cidade de Mogi das Cruzes; baseados na acep??o do espa?o santosiano e na esfera p?blica arendtiana. A crescente especializa??o do espa?o dentro da cidade, o deslocamento das formas de entretenimento para recintos fechados, o crescimento do uso de ve?culos, as condi??es de vida urbana atual mostram altera??es nas formas de apropria??o dos espa?os livres, apontados em diversos estudos como perda de interesse por pra?as e espa?os p?blicos. As pra?as e largos do centro tradicional de Mogi das Cruzes e os espa?os livres do centro expandido contrastam nas dimens?es e nas formas de apropria??es; e esses espa?os s?o analisados atrav?s de uma leitura dial?tica, do global e local, das mudan?as e perman?ncias, das apropria??es, altera??es e transforma??es tanto do sistema de objetos quanto do sistema de a??es. Dentro do processo de leitura, o corpo desempenha um papel fundamental e tem como base a fenomenologia da percep??o. Analisados e comparados, os espa?os livres do centro tradicional revelam-se, como lugares de exposi??o de pluralidades, palco de a??es e palavras no cotidiano de ontem e de hoje, o seu significado como importantes espa?os do conv?vio social cotidiano. Os espa?os livres do centro expandido, n?o se apresentam como lugares da constitui??o da esfera de vida p?blica, no entanto portadores de possibilidades de inser??o de significados e valores sociais, culturais, simb?licos. No mundo atual onde a popula??o vai se tornando cada vez mais urbana, apesar de e sobretudo pela condi??o alienante decorrente da globaliza??o, o provimento do espa?o que abrigue a esfera de vida p?blica, se faz cada vez mais necess?rio e est? relacionado ? qualidade de vida dos habitantes da cidade.

It seeks to understand the transformations of the central area, and its distinct characteristics, considering its importance as a place that concentrate public and private investments, which brings together the most significant buildings of the city, essential, therefore, to think about proposals and guidelines for its urban development. Present since the origin of the city, the most evident cultural patrimony, composed of assets inventoried and registered by the municipality and IEPHA - (Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage of Minas Gerais) known as ?Complexo Hidrotermal e Hoteleiro de Po?os de Caldas ?. It is one of the elements analyzed in this work. The research begins with a historical reconstruction of the urban transformations and the definition of the successive perimeters of central area, in the face that the changes occurred in the center are emblematic to understand the own city?s transformation. It?s analyzed the phenomena that affect the central area, as unfolding of the economic activities, in particular, the tertiary sector and the tourist activity, since the marks of each period remain in its territory, in urban tracts, buildings and public spaces, understood As elements that evoke urban memory. It is understood that knowing them and understanding them as a whole, in their physical, economic and cultural dimensions, is the first step in preserving them. / Este trabalho prop?e uma reflex?o sobre a ?rea central de Po?os de Caldas e os bens de interesse hist?ricos presentes nela, com foco nas formas de apropria??o e usos dos espa?os p?blicos e edif?cios remanescentes, no per?odo de 1946 at? 2016. Procura compreender as transforma??es da ?rea central, em suas caracter?sticas distintas, tendo em vista sua import?ncia como lugar de concentra??o de investimentos p?blicos e privados, que re?ne os edif?cios mais significativos da cidade, essencial, portanto, para pensar propostas e diretrizes para seu desenvolvimento urbano. Presente desde a origem da cidade, o patrim?nio cultural mais evidente, composto por bens inventariados e/ou tombados pelo munic?pio e pelo IEPHA - (Instituto Estadual do Patrim?nio Hist?rico e Art?stico de Minas Gerais) conhecido como ?Complexo Hidrotermal e Hoteleiro de Po?os de Caldas?, ? um dos elementos analisados neste trabalho. A pesquisa se inicia por uma reconstru??o hist?rica das transforma??es urbanas e da defini??o dos sucessivos per?metros de ?rea central, em face de que as mudan?as ocorridas no centro s?o emblem?ticas para entender a pr?pria transforma??o da cidade. S?o analisados os fen?menos que incidem sobre a ?rea central, como desdobramentos das atividades econ?micas, em especial, do setor terci?rio e da atividade tur?stica, dado que remanescem em seu territ?rio as marcas de cada per?odo, nos tra?ados urbanos, edif?cios e espa?os p?blicos, entendidos como elementos que evocam a mem?ria urbana. Entende-se que conhec?-los e compreend?los como conjunto, em suas dimens?es f?sica, econ?mica e cultural, ? o primeiro passo para preserv?-los.
