Complementation in Balinese: typological, syntactic, and cognitive perspectives

Natarina, Ari 01 May 2018 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is three-fold: to examine complementation in Balinese from typological, syntactic, and cognitive perspectives. This thesis contributes to typological studies of complementation by providing a descriptive account of the distinguishing syntactic properties of four types of Balinese clausal complements: sentence-like (s-like), Subject Control (SC), Object Control (OC), and Raising complements. The data presented in this thesis demonstrate the clausal complement in Balinese can be differentiated through the kinds of elements that can be admitted within the complements: the type of complementizer, aspectual auxiliaries, modals, temporal specifications, and overt subjects. The theoretical aspect of this thesis is the application of Minimalist theory to account for the syntactic structure of Balinese monoclausal and biclausal constructions. This thesis also addresses a theoretical problem related to the syntactic structure of complementation within Generative syntax: finiteness. The presence of modals, aspectual auxiliaries, and the temporal specification of the complement do not signify finiteness in Balinese. Instead, finiteness in Balinese is marked by the licensing of overt subjects in the clausal complement, following the argument made by Kurniawan & Davies (2015), based on the evidence provided through the comparison of control complements and their subjunctive sentence-like complement counterparts. The cognitive processing of Balinese complementation is investigated through two sentence processing experiments with the goals of understanding how ambiguous Crossed Control Construction (CCC) sentences are processed in comparison to the processing of unambiguous Subject Control (SC) sentences and Raising sentences. The self-paced reading experiment focuses on the comparison of reading times for the verbs in these three types of sentences when the animacy of the subject is manipulated (i.e. animate or inanimate clause-initial DP). The results suggest that CCC sentences are processed differently than the SC and Raising sentences. The second experiment aims at investigating the effect of discourse context on the interpretation of the ambiguous CCC sentences. The results show the influence of context that primes subject control interpretation on the processing of Balinese SC and CC sentences.

[en] REVISITING COROUTINES / [pt] REVISITANDO CO-ROTINAS

ANA LUCIA DE MOURA 27 October 2004 (has links)
[en] The purpose of this work is to defend the revival of coroutines as a powerful and convenient control construct, which can replace both firstclass continuations and threads with a single and simpler concept. In order to provide an adequate and precise definition of the concept of coroutines, we propose a new classifying system, and introduce the concept of complete coroutines, for which we provide a formal definition based on an operational semantics. We then demostrate that complete symmetric coroutines and complete asymmetric coroutines have equivalent expressive power, as well as complete coroutines and one-shot traditional and partial continuations. We also discuss the advantages of using complete asymmetric coroutines instead of symmetric coroutines or first-class continuations. Finally, we analyse the benefits and problems associated with different concurrency models, and argue in favor of the replacement of multithreading with alternative concurrency models and the provision of coroutines as a basic concurrency construct, adequate for the implementation of these alternative models.

Stavebně technologický projekt přípravy a realizace požární stanice v Jaroměři / Construction Project for Station of Fire and Rescue Services in Jaroměř

Nývlt, Josef Unknown Date (has links)
The objective of this diploma thesis is the processing of the construction technology design as a part of the preparation and implementation of the fire station in Jaroměř. It is a new construction of the main building, which is supplemented by other objects and engineering buildings. The thesis deals with complex design of the implementation of the construction and then focuses in more detail on the installation of the supporting frame structure, which consists of reinforced concrete prefabricated elements. The whole project also includes a technical report on the construction technology project, a study of the implementation of the main technological stages of the main building, solutions for transport routes for construction supply, construction site design, machine set design, technological regulations with assembly diagrams, control and test plan, time plans and balance of resource needs, itemized budget and occupational safety and health plan. The diploma thesis is supplemented by a specialized part dealing with the reconstruction of the area road with a bituminous cover and the implementation of other paved areas within the area of the fire station.
