Komparace česko-francouzských kulturních standardů ve studijním a pracovním prostředí / Comparison of Czech-French cultural standards in the school and working environment

This work focuses mainly to the cultural differences between the Czechs and the French in the school and working environment. The goal is to identify the French cultural standards from the perspective of Czech university students in France and the Czechs, who work in France or are working in contact with French, for example, in the Czech Republic. The author uses the method of critical incidents by conducting interviews. The author tests four hypotheses: verifies if there are cultural differences between the Czechs and the French and if these differences manifest during the contact in the workplace and at school and whether the Czech and French have different perception of authority in the workplace and at school. In the end, the work proposes recommendations for Czechs to facilitate cooperation with the French at school and at work.

The goal of this diploma thesis is to identify English cultural standards from the Czech point of view. In contemporary globalized world, cultural standards, which help us to discover and understand the specific features, norms of behaviour, thinking and feeling of English people, are essential for successful communication with English partners. This thesis is divided into free parts. The theoretical part is focused on theory of culture, cultural dimensions and standards. In the practical part, the attention is paid to basic information about England, contemporary English society, English culture and social and business etiquette. The goal of the last, empirical part is to describe the view of Czech people on English and to reveal the main differences between both cultures.

The objective of this thesis is to identify Japanese cultural standards from the Czech perspective. These cultural standards enable us to disclose and understand the specific features of Japanese people, their norms and ways of thinking, feeling and acting. In today's context of globalization and the rising importance of international cooperation, the knowledge of Japanese cultural standards is essential for successful communication with Japanese partners. This thesis is divided into three parts. The first one is a theoretical introduction to the issue of culture in general, as well as culture describing methods - cultural dimensions and cultural standards. The second part of this thesis deals with Japanese culture, its characteristic features and specifics of Japanese mentality. The closing part, which is based on empirical research, puts objective on defining Japanese cultural standards from the Czech perspective, as well as identifying the main cultural differences between these two nations.

The main task of the thesis is to characterize the German business practices, which are influenced mainly by cultural characteristics and standards. This work take stand for empirical research based on the experience of Czech companies with German partners. The main objective is to find out, whether the theory is in line with the practice of Czech companies. In the first part of my paper I write about local characteristic of the Federal Republic of Germany. The second chapter characterizes tendencies in behavior of the German and Czech business partners. I analyze differences between Czech and German cultural standards in international trade relations. The third chapter is about process and forms of business negotiations with Germans. In the last part of my work I mention my personal knowledge learned from personal interviews, conducted with representatives of Czech companies trading in the German market and also from my questionary research.

The practical part of thesis is focused on the United Arab Emirates, basic information about Emirates, history, arab culture and religion and in the practical part are identified arab cultural standards and they are compred with theory. The main objective of the thesis is to define a Czech-Mexican and Mexican-Czech cultural standards focused on students. The findings are compared with the theory of cultural standards by Ivan Nový. Identification of cultural standards is studied on the basis of the cultural standards method of Alexander Thomas based on an analysis of recurring conflict situations. The data collection was carried out through qualitative interviews with Czech having experience studying in Mexico and Mexican who studied in the Czech Republic. The research aims to analyse the differences in the approach to the time, the perception of authorities and difference in the meaning of education of Mexicans and Czechs. In the end, research findings provide recommendations for Czechs planning to study in Mexico as well as for Mexicans who wish to study in the Czech Republic.

The objective of the thesis is to identify specific features of the German and Austrian cultures and to examine how the cultural differences are reflected in a mutual cooperation with representatives of the Czech culture. The thesis also contains an introduction into intercultural management and methodology of cultural dimensions and standards and their most popular representatives. Cultural standards of Germans and Austrians were examined by means of an interview and questionnaire research among Czechs who have been repeatedly and on a long-term basis in contact with either of the mentioned cultures. In order to get a better understanding of the other parties the research was also conducted among Germans and Austrians who have been in contact with representatives of the Czech culture. The thesis is recommended to businesspeople, managers, workers and any other individuals who are about to cooperate with Germans or Austrians.
