Temporal and spatial distribution of chaetognaths in relation to environmental factors in the waters off southern Taiwan

Shiu, Chia-Tai 08 November 2007 (has links)
Temporal and spatial distribution in species composition and abundance of chaetognaths in relation to hydrographic variables in the waters off southern Taiwan were investigated from January 2005 to October 2006. There were 23 species of chaetognaths belonging 4 families and 12 genera recognized in this region. The 4 most dominate species were Flaccisagitta enflata (32.2%), Serratosagitta pacifica (20.6%), Zonosagitta bedfordii (12%) and Pterosagitta draco (8.8%), together comprised about 74% of total chaetognaths. The distribution in abundance of chaetognaths generally decreased from west to east along the transect, and showed clear seasonal change, with the higher abundance occurred from July to October and the lower abundance from January to May. Abundance of chaetognaths increased significantly in July 2006 and positively correlated with the abundance of copepods. Our hydrographic results indicated that South China Sea Current with higher nutrients might dominante over Kuroshio Current in this region from January 2006 to July 2006, and might lead to the increases of phytoplankton (Chl a) and copepods consequently. Furthermore, temperature and salinity also interactively influenced the distribution in abundance and species richness of chaetognaths. Stage I individuals made up the majority of chaetognaths abundance (80%). The breeding period of predominant chaetognaths (F. enflata, S. pacifica, Z. bedfordii and P. draco) are year around. Results from gut content analysis implied that copepods is the main food for chaetognaths in the study area, but the predation impact of chaetognaths on copepods was only about 0.25%¡ã2.47 %.

Investigation of Current Sensing Using Inherent Resistance

Solki, Shahin 13 May 2010 (has links)
A novel method of current sensing using resistance of power delivery path is introduced as a mean to measure static or dynamic load current in high-power system-on-chips, where conventional methods deemed inadequate. It is named ???IRS??? here, and it stands for Inherent Resistance Current Sensing. To explain its application and to provide motivation beyond this work, pros and cons of conventional techniques are reviewed with a look at previous works done in this area. It is followed with review of discreet implementation of the sensor (IRS) in chapter three. The measurements results collected using the discrete circuits are included with an in-depth analysis of the results and compensation techniques. It offers insight to effectiveness of the solution and its potential, while highlighting shortcomings and limitation of discrete implementation. This would set the tone to design integrated version of the sensor. In order to select amplifier architecture, a rundown of common methods to construct the instrumentation amplifier is discussed in chapter 4, primarily based on the latest work already done in this field per cited references. This is to help readers to get an overall view of the challenges and techniques to overcome them. Finally, the architecture for the integrated version of the sensor (IRS) is presented, with a proof of concept design. The design is targeted for low voltage VLSI systems to allow integration within large SoCs such as GPUs and CPUs. The primary block, the instrumentation amplifier, is constructed using rail-to-rail current conveyers and simulated using TSMC 32nm process node. The simulation results are analyzed and observations are provided.

Disclosure of deferred tax : a descriptive study into the appropriateness of different classification methods

De Jager, Daniel Theodorus 12 November 2008 (has links)
The distinction between current and non-current assets and liabilities used in the presentation of financial statements has been challenged for well over the past two decades. Despite this, the distiction is still used today and appears to still have relevance. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and determine the most appropriate method of classification of deferred tax between current and non-current in the context of the objective of financial statements. This is important as information that meets the objective of financial statements is useful to users of financial statements, and might influence their economic decisions. Furthermore, the most appropriate method of classification will have a direct impact on working capital ratios as well as other ratios in financial reporting analyses. A literature review of technical issues together with insights collected from accounting lecturers and technical partners and/or directors by way of a descriptive survey have shown that the destinction of deferred tax assets and liabilities between current and non-current assets and liabilities meets the objective of financial statements. This is in terms of both the current IASB Framework as well as the proposed revised Conceptual Framework. Standard setters in the accounting arena should therefore consider the value such a distinction would add to users of financial statements. This distinction will have the biggest impact on preparers of financial statements, as information of sufficient detail would have to be readily available to enable them to provide users with more relevant information. Design of wide tuning range current-controlled oscillator

Wang, Peijun, active 21st century 18 September 2014 (has links)
This thesis presents a novel current-controlled oscillator (CCO). It charges and discharges a source-coupled capacitor periodically with well-controlled current sources. Its current-to-frequency conversion relies on passive components, which are insensitive to the temperature and process variations. The proposed CCO is compact and area-efficient. Moreover, compared to ring-oscillator and LC-tank oscillator, it exhibits much wider tuning range and better linearity. Therefore, it suits the modern system-on-chip (SoC) design. / text

The effectiveness of NEWSGAME as an educational tool in the teaching of current events.

Zakrasek, Mary Margaret. January 1989 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine if an educational tool such as NEWSGAME affects students' learning about current events. To determine the effectiveness of this game, an end-of-year post-test was given to the following groups: (1) students that played NEWSGAME regularly; (2) students that played NEWSGAME occasionally; (3) students that never played NEWSGAME. In addition, demographic data such as age and sex was analyzed to determine if differences in knowledge of various current event categories existed among these groups. A survey measuring students' opinion of NEWSGAME was also collected. This study involved the participation of 350 students in 11 social studies classrooms. Of the total sample, there were 183 males and 157 females. Ten cases were not identified. The students ranged in age from 11 to 19 with the majority being 12-15 year-olds. Instrumentation consisted of a Current Events Questionnaire composed of 81 questions covering 14 areas of international, national and state issues. These consisted of multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank statements. The data analysis indicated that students who played NEWSGAME regularly scored higher than those who played occasionally. Those who played NEWSGAME occasionally scored higher than those who never played NEWSGAME. Males were found to score higher than females whether NEWSGAME was played regularly or in the occasional/none category. Students over the age of 14 who played regularly scored higher than students under the age of 14. An unusual finding was that students under the age of 14 who played occasionally or not at all scored better than students over age 14 who played occasionally or not at all. Overall, it can be concluded that the NEWSGAME experience was most beneficial for males who were older than 14 who played the game regularly. In response to the question whether students liked or disliked NEWSGAME, 91% indicated they liked this educational tool.
