La lumière est un thème récurrent dans les traités de physique du XVII siècle. Tous les philosophes qui se prononcent vis-à-vis des phénomènes et de la composition du Monde prennent aussi position relativement à la nature et aux propriétés de la lumière. Celle-ci est souvent le levier de leurs réflexions concernant la matière, la présence du vide, la composition et le calcul du mouvement, aussi bien que celles relatives à la psychologie, à la perception sensible et à la représentation du monde. Nous choisissons d’étudier ces thématiques dans la pensée cartésienne et d’analyser les rapports qui se mettent en place entre sa conception lumineuse et sa théorie de la vision, touchant les différents aspects de sa physique aussi bien que ses fondations métaphysiques. Notre travail démarrera avec l'examen de la lumière (I) : nous suivrons l’émergence de la définition de sa nature et de ses propriétés, de Le Monde jusqu'aux Principia Philosophiae, sans perdre de vue les objections présentées dans sa correspondance. L'accent sera déplacé ensuite sur la théorie de la vision (II), avec l’analyse de la physiologie de l'œil et du mécanisme inhérent au traitement des stimuli physiques. L'étude de la couleur sera la clé pour le passage de la description du monde matériel à la création d'une géométrie mathématique. La description de la lumière se déplacera ensuite vers l'analyse de la théorie de la dissemblance, avec l'abandon de toute référence à l’analogie : l'étude du langage naturel et de l’algèbre (III) formera la base de la description de la codification, qui aboutira à la riche diversité des comparaisons cartésiennes. Enfin, à partir des lois de la réfraction et la réflexion (IV), nous étudierons les problèmes optiques, physiques et épistémologiques qui, chez Descartes, constituent le substrat de la conception et de la construction de nouveaux instruments, et de leur possible perfectionnement. / In the XVII century it emerges the definition of a new scientific paradigm that influences a wide variety of research fields ranging from optics to physiology, from geometry to anatomy, all stemmed from the synergic contribution of technological and scientific discoveries, justified and often supported by philosophico-metaphysicals roots. Descartes is a protagonist of a new foundation in the field of optics, promoter of a theory about light and vision, based no longer on the analogy but rather on the dissimilarity. For Descartes, the study of the relationship between an image on an eye’s retina and its mental representation, re-addresses to the study of the nature of the light itself, and to the analysis of the relationship between the natural and perceived light. The starting point will be the theory of light (I) and the research of the definition of its nature and its properties: this will allow us to obtain and overview of the emersion of this issue by taking chronological references from Le Monde until the Principia Philosophiae, and also the main objections encountered in his correspondence. Our attention will then shift on the theory of sight (II), starting from the physiologic analysis of the eye and the inherent mechanism for the processing of physical stimulus. The study of colors emerges as the key factor to comprehend the passage to the definition of a matematico-geometrical model. These will also be the premises for the transition from sight to the theory of ideas. The study of the natural and the mathematical languages (III) will be the base for the description and the codification on the rich Cartesian metaphorical system. Finally, starting from the physical laws of refraction and reflection (IV), we will try to study the optical tools and the physical and epistemological problems that relate to their improvement, and we will specify the necessary requirements for their development.
