This thesis analyzes the educational activities of the Ottoman Jews in a time period between the last decades of the Ottoman Empire and the early years of the Turkish Republic covering the reforms the new regime performed for a secular education system. The particular education society called the Alliance Israé / lite Universelle is taken as a case study with all its activities from its establishment in 1860 to the closing its last school in Turkey. The French origin AIU schools are considered with different scopes, including their impacts upon the Ottoman and Turkish education systems and interactions with the social life in each. However, in order to analyze this institution, the administration of the heterogeneous Ottoman state is required to be revised and the status of the Jewish communities in the Ottoman Empire is to be overviewed. In the study, besides the AIU archival resources, mainly the first and second hand sources in the Turkish archives are used.

[en] PARENTS MANAGING THE SCHOOL: DOES THIS CHANGE THE RELATIONSHIP? SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF A JEWISH INSTITUTION / [pt] PAIS NA GESTÃO DA ESCOLA: MUDAM AS RELAÇÕES? UMA ANÁLISE SOCIOLÓGICA DE UMA INSTITUIÇÃO JUDAICADIANA MANDELERT 06 October 2005 (has links)
Ensino.
escola judaica.
filhos. / [en] In the perspective of the researches which aim to analyse
the family-school relations, the current work has the
objective to study those relations in a jewish school
where the family involvement is part of the structure.
This investigation had as empirical material the survey
Production Process in Teaching Quality. School, Family and
Culture, from SOCED, Group pf Research in Sociology of
Education. The survey was composed by three distinct
questionnaires: students, parents and teachers, submitted
in 9 schools annually appointed by the press as Top
schools in Rio de Janeiro. On top of that, physical
observations were done in the board of parents who has the
final responsibility to manage the school, and interviews
were conducted with the coordinators of the jewish school.
Through the research it was possible to establish the
influence of the social and cultural capital in the family-
school relations, even in prestige schools as the ones in
the survey. In the terms of parents management it was
noticed clear segregation of educational from financial-
administrative management. The first one being conducted
by the school professionals and the second one by the
administrative professionals supported by the board of
parents. This segregation points out more to a symbolic
rather than effective participation of the board of
parents. The existence of this defined space of parent´s
control gives the dimension of their importance in the
children school background.
