Affective gesture fast-track feedback instant messaging (AGFIM).

Adesemowo, A. Kayode January 2005 (has links)
Text communication is often perceived as lacking some components of communication that are essential in sustaining interaction or conversation. This interaction incoherency tends to make text communication plastic. It is traditionally devoid of intonation, pitch, gesture, facial expression and visual or auditory cues. Nevertheless, Instant Messaging (IM), a form of text communication is on the upward uptake both on PCs and on mobile handhelds. There is a need to rubberise this plastic text messaging to improve co-presence for text communications thereby improving synchronous textual discussion, especially on handheld devices. <br /> <br /> One element of interaction is gesture, seen as a natural way of conversing. Attaining some level of interaction naturalism requires improving synchronous communication spontaneity, partly achieved by enhancing input mechanisms. To enhance input mechanisms for interactive text-based chat on mobile devices, there is a need to facilitate gesture input. Enhancement is achievable in a number of ways, such as input mechanism redesigning and input offering adaptation. This thesis explores affective gesture mode on interface redesign as an input offering adaptation. This is done without a major physical reconstruction of handheld devices.<br /> <br /> This thesis presents a text only IM system built on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE). It was developed with a novel user-defined hotkey implemented as a one-click context menu to &ldquo / fast-track&rdquo / text-gestures and emoticons.<br /> <br /> A hybrid quantitative and qualitative approach was taken to enable data triangulation. Results from experimental trials show that an Affective Gesture (AG) approach improved IM chat spontaneity/response. Feedback from the user trials affirms that AG hotkey improves chat responsiveness, thus enhancing chat spontaneity.

[en] POWER CONTROL IN CELULAR MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS / [pt] CONTROLE DE POTÊNCIA EM SISTEMAS DE COMUNICAÇÕES MÓVEIS CELULARES

RODOLFO SABOIA LIMA DE SOUZA 10 November 2003 (has links)
[en] This work examines several techniques of allocation of canals, and allocation of power, based in the parameter relation signal noise interference. The projects of power control that use this parameter, are decided from the determination of the spectral ray of a matrix gotten from the manipulation of the matrix of profits of enlace. It was proven that it is possible to solve this matrix through another method based on determinative, and also was shown that this method allows to get a feasible allocation of canals quickly. Moreover, several techniques of otimization of the power allocation had been studied, extending the boarding for a complete vision of the problem of power allocation.

The Research on Competitive Strategies for Mobile Communications Industry in Taiwan

Huang, Yunn-Ru 22 June 2011 (has links)
In the rapid development of mobile communication industry, mobile phone converted from general voice-guided to smart phones, tablet PC and other handheld, which through multi-functional integration of operating system and value-added services, is changing the whole market demand. The main purpose of this thesis is to provide the competitive strategies for the mobile communication industry, mainly from system operators, channel and mobile equipment manufacturer, analyzed by SWOT, industry profiles and trends to evaluate mutual relations of valued chain and digital convergence. With the literature review and the investigations of the mobile communication industry, practitioners and experts in Taiwan, we establish the following strategies: 1.Smart phones and tablet PC in the future development of the market with high growth opportunities, integration between system platform and hardware/software, and the user interface and application services will enable higher value added in the industry. 2.Mobile equipment manufacturer develops enhanced features to networking function peripheral products, coupled with the popularity of mobile networks, to make mobile devices more functionality expanded. 3.The role of channel needs to create differentiated service, integrated telecommunications services and market information, as well as professional and dedicated service to the channel to exert influence on the market. 4.The system operator, channel and mobile equipment manufacturer in close cooperation between the three is bound to become the mainstream business model. Integrated strategy of digital convergence and application service is mainly required to long-term growth and development.

Development of the Multi-Function Meter with Wireless Communication and the Internet

Wu, Hung-Chang 19 July 2005 (has links)
Traditionally, power companies manage utility bills by sending agents to customer houses to take the consumption records by hand and send the records to data bank at the control center. It is difficult and in-efficient to keep track of these records. In addition, the possible man-made mistakes on information management may add extra personnel expenses. This thesis incorporates such techniques as AT90S8515 Imbedded Chip, electronic circuits, and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) infrastructure into a comprehensive ¡¥Automatic Power Consumption Report System¡¦. The system provides an immediate transmission of the consumption records, which changes the traditional manual method to collect records. Meanwhile, the GSM and the SMS (Short Message Service) are also incorporated to provide the capability of informing the management of emergent messages such as unusual situations of the consumption records acquired. Through TCP/IP, the system integrates VB (Visual Basic) Communication Protocol, ASP (Active Server Pages), and SQL (Structure Query Language) to achieve the function of remote monitoring through the Internet and to enable the consumers the possibilities of checking their own consumption records with Internet Explorer remotely.
