Risk allocation in public private partnership infrastructure projectsZittlau, Werner Gustav 06 December 2011 (has links)
M.Comm. / The creation of infrastructure services and products has traditionally been the responsibility of the government, but this has changed with the private sector becoming more involved through public private partnerships. This change has been driven by the need for better value for money to the end user and the private sector's ability to achieve higher efficiencies. The extent to which value for money will be achieved will be largely dependent on the correct risk allocation between the parties involved. An optimum risk allocation will ensure that the risk. Pricing is kept to a minimum and thus achieve a cost effective product or service.

Establishing Ties: Descriptions of Meaningful Interactions with Health Care Providers from the Perspectives of Family Caregivers of Persons Diagnosed with Moderate to Advanced DementiaAdkison, Lesley Ellen January 2014 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Ellen K. Mahoney / Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe meaningful interactions with health care providers (HCPs) from the perspectives of family caregivers of persons with dementia (PWD). A secondary purpose was to understand ways in which family caregivers obtained needed information for managing uncertainty associated with providing care for a PWD. Background: Family members of PWD often assume the caregiver role, but lack preparation for the psychological and practical ramifications of caring for someone with a progressive, terminal illness (Alzheimer's Association, 2011a). Lack of preparedness for caregiving impacts well-being and quality of life throughout the caregiving experience (Lilly, Robinson, Holzman and Bottorff, 2012). Meaningful interactions with HCPs have the potential to improve preparedness and alleviate suffering of caregivers, promote caregiver well-being and positively impact treatment provided to PWD. Methods: Qualitative description was used to obtain rich, straightforward descriptions from perspectives of participants. Congruent with this approach, findings were reported with minimal inference. Results: Positive meaningful interactions with HCPs included interactive dialogue, partnering between HCPs and caregivers, and a sense of being known as individuals with unique needs. Negative meaningful interactions were characterized as lacking one or more of those components. Participants used multiple strategies to obtain information and manage uncertainty associated with caregiving. Efforts to obtain care for PWD were often complicated by challenges of a health care system that was not designed to meet the needs of PWD. Conclusions: HCPs have opportunities to improve interactions, provide support and increase preparedness for family members providing care for PWD. HCP: caregiver partnerships can improve care for PWD and mitigate stressors inherent in the caregiving role. Corrective experiences may change caregivers' perceptions and provide opportunities for HCPs to intervene, engage and partner with health care consumers. Nurses are particularly well-suited to taking a leadership role in fostering partnerships and helping to design a dementia-ready system to meet the needs of PWD and those who care for them. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2014. / Submitted to: Boston College. The Critical Success Factors of Public Private Partnerships in Lagos StateIgboka, Franca 01 January 2015 (has links)
In recent years, the Lagos State Government has attempted to adopt public private
partnerships (PPP) with little success, largely as a result of implementation barriers. The
purpose of this quantitative, ex-post facto design study was to evaluate which factors are
considered most predictive of success of PPP implementation in the state, whereby the
prescribed quality of products/services is achieved within a specified time frame and at
the agreed cost. Wood and Gray's theory of collaboration and the network and
collaborations theory by Kamensky and Burlin guided this study. A self-constructed and
validated structured questionnaire was utilized in the collection of survey data from 105
government officials and private sector partners who had experience in the state's PPP
process. To ensure validity of survey data collected, data triangulation was carried out
against information from the State's bulletins on its PPP projects. Data were analyzed
using ANOVA. Key findings indicated that statistically significant (p = .05) factors
include the development of a legal framework for PPPs, perception of value of intended
projects, identification and allocation of risks, engineering and technical structure, proper
identification of required competencies, and staffing and training. Factors that were not
significant included economic, political, and social conditions, planning, involvement of
affected persons at the planning stage, bidding process, understanding of the goals and
objectives of each partner, financing structure, project monitoring and evaluation,
effective communication, good leadership, and transparency and trust. To encourage
positive social change, it is recommended that the state enhances the success factors
identified by this study to strengthen PPP practices and improve infrastructure in Lagos.

A study of enhancing the operational performance for automated control equipment distributorsLien, I-chung 07 August 2007 (has links)
Automation control is a new technology developed from a combination of mechanical, electrical, electronic and information. In Taiwan, regardless of the traditional manufacturing industries or the emerging high-technology industries, warehouses, equipments, production equipments required in the manufacturing aspects of value chain business are with the automation applications. However, in the industry, along with the internationalization and liberalization of the economy and the domestic manufacturing industry accelerating towards high value-added development, traditional distributors face considerable threats because of rapid development effect of the standardization of industrial products and more transparency of business information. The treats are: upstream supply sources are in the control of handful large domestic and foreign factories; the distributors are not unique to the downstream customers. Targeting at the hardship faced by the automated control equipment distributors, this study shall explore, from all angles of supply chain, ways in enhancing the operational performance of the automated control equipment distributors.
To explore how the automated control equipment distributors, in the face of such severe competitive, use supply chain management to maintain the supply chain marketing order, establish partnership between the supply chain members, further understand that under this marketing order, how the operational performance of the automated control equipment distributors is improved. Through the interview records of the case companies, supplemented by the related domestic reference, the study sums up the constructive marketing order of automated control equipment and key factors of division of labor.
The results of the three studies are presented as follows:
1. The information technology and communications technology advancement have enabled the upstream manufacturer to replace part of the automated control equipment distributors.
2.¡§Not to trust each other¡¨ and ¡§Not in harmonic marketing order¡¨ are the main reasons of vicious price competition of the distributors. Therefore, the distributors should pay attention to ¡§Reintermediary¡¨ by enhancing the differences with the upstream manufacturers and reducing the possibility of unbalance in production order.
3. Through the customers¡¦ satisfaction and feedback, they can accumulate customer knowledge and also increase the added value of themselves.
