Diploma thesis is focused on conceptual design of Wankel rotary engine with performance between 30-60 kW. Performance of designed engine is determined to 35 kW and volume of one chamber amounts to 245,58 cm^3. In this thesis are step by step calculated geometrical properties of each design group which are afterwards put into 3D data. There is also solved cooling system of designed engine and design of geometrical and characteristic properties of parts of cooling system. Last but, not least there is solved placement of designed engine into frame of motorcycle. As suitable motorcycle has been chosen Honda CBR125R because it has very advantageous layout of frame.

This thesis deals with dynamic behavior of rotor dynamics system vibrating in a liquid. Work is factually oriented on influence of the liquid to natural frequences of rotor of vortex turbine. There is described the creation of geometric and computational model of the system and the results of natural frequences and damping in dependence on environment are presen-ted. There are compared variations in natural frequences of the rotor system, which are caused of the interaction of the various level of the water environment. The step of integration are tested and compared for choise solving method. Problem is solved by computational simulation in commercial software ANSYS 11.0 There is used software tools Multiphysics/FSI.

The master thesis deals with modal analysis of the blade of the steam turbine impeller. This analysis is made to find the frequency response of the blade in order to predict the dangerous speeds of the steam turbine. At first the problem situation is described. Than follows the research study which is focused on steam turbines and especially on the rotor dynamic systems and the way to ascertain the modal parameters of the dynamic system by experiment. After that the solution of the problem is performed by computational modelling. The results of the computation are analyzed in detail for different variations of the blade length by Campbell diagram. A graph showing dependency between dangerous speeds of the turbine and the blade length is made out of the results. Then the results are verified by experiment and the coefficients of proportional damping are specified. In conclusion the optimal variation of the blade length for the given operational state is determined.

The aim of this master thesis is the retrofit of a condensing steam turbine. The thesis obtains a revision of the steam turbine, the reconstruction of steam turbine blades and the basic calculation of bolt torques of the turbine split plane. The master thesis is assigned to a specific retrofit of the steam turbine Lang. In the introductory part the thesis is focused on the turbine description and the basic functions of selected turbine components. The following part deals with the revision and the proposal of repairs for all components and the recommendation of additional modernizations of specific measuring equipments. The analysis of anchoring the stator and rotor blading and their reconstruction is discussed in the next part. In the last part the thesis focuses on the sealing of the turbine split plane and the calculation of the various bolt torques closely linked to the sealing.

<p>Naturally occurring carbohydrates polymers and their functional derivatives play important roles in the research and technology development in the food, nutrition, and pharmaceutical areas. A major property of these polymeric materials is to associate, enable, enhance, and/or deliver small-molecule active compound such as phytochemicals, nutraceuticals, and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The goal of this project was to synthesize and characterize phytoglycogen-based materials and study their structure-function relationships in association with selected small-molecule active compounds, including resveratrol, a food-related poorly water-soluble phenolic compound, griseofulvin, an insoluble API, and CCVJ (9-(2-carboxy-2-cyanovinyl) julolidine) a molecular rotor used as a structural probe of polymeric materials. </p><p>In this study, phytoglycogen (PG) was derivatives to phytoglycogen octenyl succinate (PG-OS), hydroxypropyl phytoglycogen (HPP), and octenylsuccinate hydroxypropyl phytoglycogen (OHPP). PG, HPP, and OHPP were evaluated for their efficacy in improving the solubility and Caco-2 permeation of resveratrol and griseofulvin, and using CCVJ, PG-OS was evaluated on its performance at oil-water interface in comparison with OSA-starch, acacia gum, and sodium caseinate. The results showed that: 1) PG, HPP, and OHPP substantially improved the soluble amount and Caco-2 monolayer permeation of resveratrol and griseofulvin, and anti-fungal efficacy of griseofulvin in the aqueous system were significantly enhanced; suggesting that the active ingredients were effective solubilized and released to become bioavailable, 2) among all PG-based biopolymers, OHPP showed superior performance in solubilizing resveratrol and griseofulvin, and 3) in the oil-water two-layer model system, PG-OS, OSA-starch, acacia gum, and sodium caseinate all affected the transferring of CCVJ from oil to aqueous phase, and the effect was monitored and interpreted by the emission spectra of molecular rotor; in the emulsion system, the emission peak wavelength of CCVJ was correlated with the amount of biopolymer adsorbed at the interface of emulsion droplets, and the molecular rotor-based method can be used to characterize the interfacial adsorption of biopolymer at the interface in oil-in-water emulsion.</p><p>This study provides information on the interactions between phytoglycogen-based biopolymers and poorly water-soluble active ingredients, and may potentially supports the study of new functional ingredients interaction with phytoglycogen-based biopolymers in aqueous system. Furthermore, this work allowed us to advance the use of molecular rotor as new analytical tool to study the physicochemical properties of biopolymer.</p>

NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF PRESSURE WAVE SUPERCHARGER WITH POCKETS OPERATING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDSPawan Jaysing Sutar (9750260) 08 June 2021 (has links)
<div>Pressure wave supercharger is an application of wave rotor technology that utilizes compression waves produced by high-pressure engine exhaust gas to compress the fresh intake air within the channels. The phenomena within the wave rotor channels are governed by compression and expansion waves initiated when the channel ends are periodically exposed to differing pressure ports. Two incoming fluids are brought into contact for a very short amount of time to facilitate efficient energy and momentum transfer, thereby exchanging pressure dynamically between the fluids by means of unsteady pressure waves. Since the energy transfer is based on unsteady pressure waves, correct matching of waves and ports is essential for optimum results. Mistiming of the waves in the channels is detrimental to the efficient exchange of pressure and low-pressure exhaust scavenging, which ensures minimum exhaust gas recirculation. Due to varying speed and load conditions of the unit to be supercharged, it is not always possible to maintain the rotor speed constant at the design point.</div><div>To mitigate the effects of wave mistiming due to varying speed, a well-designed combination of wall-pockets was used in Comprex® pressure wave supercharger. The wall-pockets are the recesses provided in the endplates of pressure wave superchargers to create necessary pressure zones at desired locations. This thesis details an extensive qualitative and computational investigation of the performance of pressure wave superchargers with pockets. Numerical simulations of pressure wave superchargers have been performed using the wave rotor analysis codes employed at the Combustion and Propulsion Research Laboratory at IUPUI. This work also pays close attention to inspecting the numerical schemes and modeling of different physical phenomena used in each code. A comparative verification of the wave rotor analysis codes has been conducted to ensure that the same fundamental numerical scheme is correctly implemented in each code. The issue of low-pressure scavenging has been demonstrated by simulating the four-port (pocketless) pressure wave supercharger operating at lower speeds. The wall-pockets have been modeled using a simple lumped volume technique. The gas state in the lumped volume of pockets is estimated using the continuity and energy equations such that the net mass and energy fluxes between each pocket and the wave rotor channels are close to zero. The lumped volume models of pockets have been implemented in the four-port wave rotor configurations to simulate the pressure wave superchargers with pockets. The simulation results show that the pockets assist to maintain sufficient pressure in the desired zones to facilitate proper low-pressure scavenging during lower rotor speed operations. The Comprex simulation results have been observed to be in good agreement with experimental data and qualitative analysis. Specific observations on the performance of each code and comprehensive simulation results have been presented.</div>
