Prototype of a Fragmented Document Editor

Jutterström, Jenny January 2009 (has links)

Signifikant Svenska AB supplies an information system called Assert, developed to facilitate the aftermarket sales in the manufacturing and subcontractor domains. The information system offers companies and organizations the possibility to gather their product information in a joint database in order to increase the information availability and distribution.

The management of the documents is an important part of the customer need and can be improved in order to also support document maintenance directly in Assert. At the moment, users only have the possibility to add and view documents in the database. By also providing users the possibility to create documents, update document contents, effectively reuse document sections and ease the translation of documents within Assert, the document management will be better facilitated.

The purpose of this thesis is to develop a prototype which shows the concept and benefits when providing the possibility to share document contents between several documents. The prototype is developed in C#/WPF and provides a word processor with features to reuse document contents and translation management.

The x-word and its usage : Taboo words and swearwords in general, and x-words in newspapers

Lindahl, Katarina January 2008 (has links)

All languages have words that are considered taboo – words that are not supposed to be said or used. Taboo words, or swearwords, can be used in many different ways and they can have different meanings depending on what context they appear in. Another aspect of taboo words is the euphemisms that are used in order to avoid obscene speech. This paper will focus on x-words, words like the f-word or the c-word, which replace the words fuck or cunt, but as the study will show they also have other meanings and usages.

The purpose of this paper is also to investigate the significance of taboo words and their usage in English, as well as research on how they are used, or not used, in media. The aim is to examine how x-words are used in the British newspapers the Guardian and the Observer by using corpus searches.

The results show that there are several ways of using x-words, and that using them in order to show that a word either is taboo, or has become taboo in a certain context, is the most common way. It is also clear that x-words can represent many different words, and not only words that are generally considered taboo.

A Confidence-based Hierarchical Word Clustering for Document Classification

Yin, Kai-Tai 09 August 2007 (has links)
We propose a novel feature reduction approach to group words hierarchically into clusters which can then be used as new features for document classification. Initially, each word constitutes a cluster. We calculate the mutual confidence between any two different words. The pair of clusters containing the two words with the highest mutual confidence are combined into a new cluster. This process of merging is iterated until all the mutual confidences between the un-processed pair of words are smaller than a predefined threshold or only one cluster exists. In this way, a hierarchy of word clusters is obtained. The user can decide the clusters, from a certain level, to be used as new features for document classification. Experimental results have shown that our method can perform better than other methods.

Study on the Influence of Public Opinion and Propaganda on the Internet Regarding Virtual Community Group Food Shopping

Chin, Yun-chu 23 July 2008 (has links)
Due to the fast speed of broadband and the advanced level of bandwidth, Internet users love to spend a lot of time surfing the Internet and the e-life concept has become a very popular living style. Recently, the trend towards food shopping in groups has overwhelmed traditional shopping habits. In the past, people bought food after a free taste and now the food lovers share their experiences on their blogs. The unknown shops therefore will become famous after being introduced by food lovers forwarding their relevant e-mails. The establishment of virtual communities for shopping in groups helps consumers to acquire a better price after negotiating with shop owners. The estimated variables, including comments of group leaders, life styles and intensity of relations, were used to analyze the buying willingness in the virtual communities. The results of questionnaires were collected from the ihergo website, run by a Delicacies Discovery Team in Kaohsiung. All data were analyzed and verified via: descriptive statistics, reliability factors, correlation and regression etc. The results are described as follows: 1.The positive comments of group leaders impacted buying willingness in the virtual communities. 2.The positive intensity of relations affected the buying willingness in the virtual communities. 3.The ¡§creativity and trends¡¨ in lifestyle revealed a positive correlation with the buying willingness in virtual communities
