[en] Artificial muscles are versatile for the actuator projects, because, as well as the natural muscles, they can have small dimensions or they are grouped to obtain big dimensions. Muscle capacity to allow construction of actuators without movable parts allows great economy of energy, avoiding attritions for sliding, lessening waste, and reducing noise.Artificial muscles are used to develop continuous or binary actuators, using different types of configurations to take advantage to the benefit that offer these materials. Eletrostrictive artificial muscles, worked by high tensions, are already being used in commercial applications. Electronic circuits are being projected to work with high electric tensions and to interact with these types of muscles. Many types of materials are being evaluated for the implementation of these muscles. This work looks for to develop a cylindrical configuration actuator of electric activation, for capacitive effect. The actuator is activated by 3 artificial muscles in parallel configuration, built starting from the acrylic elastomer VHB4905, which possesses viscouselastic characteristics and low production cost. Different models of the muscles are analyzed, based on springs and shock absorbers in series and parallel.Calibrate methods are developed to calculate parameters of the mathematical models of the muscles starting from data obtained at laboratory. Measurement method based on processing of images and theory of stereo vision, specifically developed for this work, allows no-invasive measurement of the actuator’s extremity, without interfering in actuator’s movement, and without the need to put sensor or measurement instruments. The results show that mathematical models are efficient to describe the behavior of the actuator.

[en] SIMULATION OF INJECTION PROCESS FOR VISCOELASTIC POLYMER SOLUTION IN A RESERVOIR SCALE / [pt] SIMULAÇÃO DO PROCESSO DE INJEÇÃO DE SOLUÇÕES POLIMÉRICAS VISCOELÁSTICAS NA ESCALA DE RESERVATÓRIO

JULIA FROTA RENHA 25 July 2016 (has links)
[en] Aiming to increase the capacity of oil fields, conventional recovery methods are used. These methods consist in the injection of water or gas to maintain the reservoir pressure. The oil production typically takes place by displacing this oil in the porous media, where the displacing fluid (water) is injected to gradually occupy the space of the displaced fluid (oil). Since due to capillary effects and the heterogeneity of the porous media, a residual oil portion ends up trapped in the reservoir. These methods lead to low values of oil recovery factor, which occurs mainly by two factors: high viscosity of the reservoir s oil in relation to the viscosity of the injected fluid and high interfacial tension between the fluids. The addition of polymers to the water ensures an increase in the viscosity of the injected fluid, improving mobility ratio between water and oil in the porous media. Thus, standardizing forward swept and improving the swept efficiency due to improved oil displacement, which reduces the formation of preferential paths in the reservoir, usually called fingers. This paper analyzes the viscoelastic behavior of the polymer, by isolating the viscous and elastic effect in function of its extension and shear rates, implemented in a polymer injection simulation model in a reservoir scale. The effect of the rheological properties of the polymer solution show in the production results a more stable injection front and consequently an oil recovery rate improvement when evaluated as a purely shear behavior. However an improvement in the recovery rate and stability of the injection front for pure extensional behavior can only be observed when the capillary number is increased considerably.

[pt] AVALIAÇÃO DO COMPORTAMENTO À FLUÊNCIA DO ABS ADITIVADO COM RETARDANTES DE CHAMA / [en] EVALUATION OF THE CREEP BEHAVIOR OF ABS WITH FLAME RETARDANTS ADDITIVES

THIAGO MOREIRA DA SILVA 02 May 2023 (has links)
[en] Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is a polymer of great industrial use, being used in numerous products. Many of its applications require a high resistance to combustion, either due to the presence of electrical charges (Joule Effect) or exposure to high temperature environments. However, ABS, like most polymers, is not as resistant to combustion, requiring the use of Flame Retardant (RC) additives. The introduction of these additives can, however, lead to changes in the mechanical properties, so it is necessary to compare the behavior of the material with and without additives. Particularly important is long-term behavior such as fluency. Thus, in this work, the creep behavior of ABS without additive and of three ABS/RC systems was evaluated. A system employing a commercial bromine-based additive (ABS − Br) was used, which served as a basis for comparison and two recently developed systems employing bio-retardants, namely: tannic acid (TA) and ammonium polyphosphate (APP) . The test results showed that the commercial additive did not cause a change in creep life compared to ABS without additive. On the other hand, the results indicated that the creep life was reduced when the APP additive was incorporated and that it increased when the TA was added. Experimental data from creep tests were used to evaluate the viscoelastic behavior of the four groups of materials. ABS had its behavior adequately represented by the Burgers model, as well as ABS with bromine-based additive. The model that best described the behavior of ABS with APP was the modified Burgers model (Streched Burgers). Not all ABS samples with TA showed fluence in the time interval used and the model that best described the behavior was the standard linear solid.
