[pt] ESTUDO DOS EFEITOS DE TINTURAS DE CABELOS NOS RESULTADOS DO MINERALOGRAMA CAPILAR: UMA ABORDAGEM QUIMIOMÉTRICA / [en] STUDY OF THE EFFECTS OF HAIR DYE ON THE RESULTS OF THE CAPILLARY MINERALOGRAM: A CHEMOMETRIC APPROACHVERONICA LUIZA ESTEVES DOS SANTOS 19 April 2023 (has links)
[pt] O exame de mineralograma capilar fornece as concentrações de
elementos tóxicos e essenciais no cabelo.
acoplado (ICP-MS).
[en] The hair mineral analysis test reports the concentrations of toxics and
essential elements inside the hair structure. The utilization of hair care products,
in addition to being able to represent an exposure source, also can be responsible
for certain changes in the mineral composition of the hair. In present work,
natural hair samples were treated with different dyes and, posteriorly, studied
following the pre-established protocol for multi-element analysis by means of
inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Hence, the element
compositions of natural human hair after different treatments were compared.
With the help of the Kruskal-Wallis statistical test, it was possible to identify
significant differences (p < 0.05) for the elements, such as Na, K and Mg. Their
concentrations increased from 100 to 5000x after the use of permanent and semipermanent
dyes, while in the case of the hair samples treated with the natural
dye no significant difference was observed. The concentrations of some
elements, such as Al, Fe, P decreased (from 20 to 40%) after the respective
treatments. Therefore, it was established that some elements are transferred or
removed from the hair after the use of certain products, confirming that aesthetic
treatments can interfere the results of the hair mineral analysis test. It reasons
testing in patients with dyed hair or the possibility of waiting for about 3 months
without the use of permanent treatments before sample collection for the
analysis.

[pt] AVALIAÇÃO ESTATÍSTICA DOS EFEITOS DO FUMO E DO USO DE ANTICONCEPCIONAIS NA COMPOSIÇÃO QUÍMICA DO CABELO / [en] STATISTICAL EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTS OF SMOKING AND THE USE OF CONTRACEPTIVES ON THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF HAIRNATALIA REGO E SILVA 02 January 2024 (has links)
elementos essenciais no organismo.
As análises
[en] This work was developed from the project approved in the Call for Proposals for Girls and Women in the Exact and Earth Sciences, Engineering and Computing, from the Carlos Chagas Foundation for Research Support in the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ), which aimed to promote young women s interest in scientific research with projects developed in public schools in the state of Rio de Janeiro.Cigarettes and contraceptives are common themes among young people, who oftenend up using them prematurely and were therefore chosen as the subject of this study. Cigarettes contain toxic substances that cause chronic degenerative diseases due to nicotine addiction. In turn, contraceptives act on hormones that can disruptthe cycles of essential elements in the body. The aim of this study was therefore to evaluate, using statistical tools, the elemental composition of the hair of smokers and women who take contraceptives, compared to that of people who do not use these substances. The hair samples were collected from volunteers from the schools participating in the project and analyzed following the methodology established at Labspectro, the Atomic Spectrometry Laboratory at PUC-Rio, for the capillary mineralogram, which consists of multi-elemental determination by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Using the Kruskal Wallis test, significantly lower concentrations (p less than 0.05) of Na and Mg were identified in the group of smokers, and of Cu in the hair of women taking contraceptives. In Spearman s correlation analysis, higher correlations were identified for some toxic elements, such as Cu/Pb and Cr/As, for the group of smokers, while correlations involving Co, Se and I were obtained for women taking contraceptives. Principal component analysis confirmed the results of Spearman s analysis, but it was not possible to establish a clear and distinct separation of the groups studied. Thus, it can be concluded that smoking and the use of contraceptives interfere with the results of the hair mineralogram, and further studies are needed to assess the health implications of these differences.

[en] ASSESSMENT OF THE MOBILITY OF ELEMENTAL CONTAMINANTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS DUE TO THE INAPPROPRIATE DISPOSAL OF FLUORESCENT LAMPS / [pt] AVALIAÇÃO DA MOBILIDADE DE CONTAMINANTES ELEMENTARES E IMPACTOS AMBIENTAIS DEVIDO AO DESCARTE INAPROPRIADO DE LÂMPADAS FLUORESCENTESLAIS NASCIMENTO VIANA 07 August 2023 (has links)
Assim, no presente estudo empregamos
[en] Although fluorescent lamps (FL) are being replaced by LED (light emitting
diode), most FL are disposed of improperly and recycling rates are still generally
low (4 percent in China, 5 percent in Brazil, 7 percent in Canada, less than 10 percent in Japan). Because of their
composition, FL can have a significant environmental impact. Thus, in the present
study, we used different analytical techniques with the objective of characterizing
the raw phosphor material of FL, quantifying the elements mobilized by synthetic
landfill leachate and acid rain solutions, and evaluating the environmental impacts
related to the disposal of lamps through life cycle analysis (LCA) for the city of Rio
de Janeiro scenario. The analysis of the raw material by fluorescence and X-ray
diffraction (FRX and DRX) points to a complex composition of solid phases, with
a predominance of Ca, P and Al, presence of rare earth elements, As and others.
Through microwave-assisted near-total acid extraction, concentrations varying
from 1 to 165 g kg-1 were found for Al, Ba, Ce, Eu, La, Mn, P, Sr, and Y in the raw
material, and more than 700 mg kg-1
of Hg. Leaching with synthetic solutions was
performed with and without agitation, with 0.6 g of sample, 1 mL of solutions, and
3 h of exposure. The test produced the mobilization of several elements with
concentrations reaching 23.5 more or less 0.4 mg kg-1
(Hg) in acid rain, and 34.0 more or less 1.0 mg
kg-1
(Sr) in landfill leachate. Due to the danger of some elements, the amounts
extracted, although low, are worrying, and consecutive leaching, common in a real
disposal scenario, can aggravate the situation. The life cycle analysis indicated that
the lamps generate greater environmental impacts in the categories of terrestrial
ecotoxicity, non-carcinogenic human toxicity, global warming potential and
depletion of fossil resources. The analysis indicated that increasing recycling rates
can reduce most impacts to the environment by 70 to 90 percent.
