Exilová výtvarná scéna v Čechách a její následné působení v zahraničí, 1933 až 1945 / The exile visual art scene in Bohemia and its subsequent activities abroad, 1933 - 1945Rokytová, Bronislava January 2011 (has links)
The exile visual art scene in Bohemia and its subsequent activities abroad, 1933-1945 The development of the political situation in Germany during the thirties of the 20th century, when the Nazi Party was radicalizing and Adolph Hitler's power gradually became unlimited, meant a danger not only for the political opponents of Nazism. Artists who work didn't meet the criteria of the new aesthetic or even engaged in its detriment, had to seek for asylum. The First Czechoslovak Republic became one of these refuges. The Czech-German art scene was a significant aid for the integration of the refugees into the society. Some of its personalities returned to their birthplace for similar reasons as anti-Nazi refugees. Czech-German conditions provided to emigrants an opportunity for active continuing of the struggle against Nazi regime, also with a backward impact in Germany. But the support by the Czech population and the state went through series of changes under pressure of Nazi German government and the growing influence of the Sudeten areas. Artists with the status of refugees were obliged to follow a set of state regulations and orders, which often bureaucratically confined their creative activity. Nevertheless, some of their artworks, contacts and memories show their positive attitude to the Czech...

The thesis studies the consumption of tobacco as a specific cultural phenomenon owing to the fact that since a tobacco plant has been brought to Europe; its use has spread over other continents and has rooted in many developed civilizations. From the theoretical standpoint, the thesis argues that as cultures are not constant entities, the same applies for public opinions regarding tobacco, from the firm belief that tobacco has positive effects on our health to the stigmatization of tobacco. The paper has four parts. First three parts discuss smoking in marketing communication and further identifies key topics; the final part presents the semiotic analysis of tobacco advertising from the selected periodicals printed (from newspapers and magazines) in the former Czechoslovakia from twenties to fifties of the twentieth century. The main objective is to specify both verbal and visual motives that ad makers used to use in order to create ideological implications of their ads (decoding symbols and interpretation of their meanings). Further, the thesis describes the former advertising style for tobacco products ( brands, targeting, products). The methodology of the work is partly based on the work of Jan Stern (2005, Latent meaning of advertisement text), further some of his terms are being applied in...

It is argued that this approach enables the analyst to pose questions concerning the ideological character of theatre criticism. This thesis discusses ideas of avant-garde creators and theorists, in whose public work it identifies the main source of inspiration for the revolutionary transformation of Czech theatre in 1945. It explores the influence of the Communist Party in the given period, targeted interventions in the Czech media and theatre system and manipulative practices leading to the strengthening of its power in the post-war state. The text also deals with the manifestations of the emerging socio-political disposition in theatre journalism, the form of the reception of post-war hegemonic formation by the journalist, and to structure the results of the analysis into a broader political-media...

Státní bezpečnost a rok 1989 / State Security in 1989Procházka, Libor January 2012 (has links)
Thesis wants to show how well the Czechoslovak secret police was informed about the activities, plans and tactics of the political opposition especially in the year 1989. The main sources for the paper are the authentic records of the State Security as regular situation reports, information on the security situation in the country, inside directives of the secret police, but also some documents of the Communist Party leadership. Text shows which were the most important activities of the independent initiatives in the viewpoint of StB and prove that the security forces of the regime seem to might have had (surprisingly) good information on the opposition initiatives. Paper is also aimed on some functional aspects of the State Security, which did not exist in a political vacuum, but was directly subordinated to the Communist Party. Finally, it describes changes in the organizational structures of StB, particularly linked to the reform in 1988. Key words: State security, year 1989, opposition in Czechoslovakia, Charta 77, Movement for Civic Freedom, Obroda, Democratic initiative

Politika německé menšiny v meziválečném Československu na příkladu Německé sociálně demokratické strany dělnické v Brně / The Policy of the German Minority in the Interwar Czechoslovakia on the Example of German Social Democratic Workers PartyNavrátilová, Šárka January 2016 (has links)
The Policy of the German Minority in the Interwar Czechoslovakia on the Example of German Social Democratic Workers Party in Brno Abstract of Diploma Thesis The diploma thesis deals with the politics of the German minority at municipal level in the first years after the Czechoslovak Republic was established. The relations between Czech and German political representation in the years 1918 to 1924 are described by the example of the German Social Democratic Workers Party in Brno. The case study is based on the analysis of contemporary press, especially the party journals of the German Social Democracy, and archival documents from the sessions of the local municipal government. The introduction describes the reactions of German politicians to the loss of the privileged position in the city after the break-up of the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy. The first municipal elections after World War I represented a turning point in the politics of the Germans in Brno. They rejected the requirement of joining Moravian capital Brno to Austria and started to be interested in their own representation in the municipal government, and thus participation in the Czechoslovak political system. The next part of the thesis follows up the development of the relationships of the German Social Democrats towards other Czech and German...

Samizdatové překlady z němčiny do češtiny / Translations produced as part of the so-called Samisdat literature, from German to CzechMusilová, Tereza January 2019 (has links)
This thesis deals with the translations beyond official publishers during the era of Communism in Czechoslovakia from 1948 to 1989. More particularly, the thesis is focused on mapping Czech translations of German literature published in samisdat during the Communist era and on understanding a sociology of translation in the samisdat production. Taking into account the social changes and cultural politics, the author explores when, by whom, in what circumstances and for what reason were the German texts translated. Furthermore, the aim of this thesis is to determine whether the translation work in samisdat was coordinated, and if so, to find out by whom. Another aim is to find out whether there was a publishing strategy during the samisdat translations. A method of oral history is used in order to interview the contemporary witnesses. Findings based on these interviews are later grouped into a force field using Pierre Bourdieu's sociological model. The conclusion consists of findings about the process of translating German literature to Czech during the samisdat era. These data are then evaluated and analysed from several points of view.
