柳永為北宋著名之詞人，但過往多囿於雅俗之見的評價，使其人其詞在文學史上未能得到相應的地位。故論文中擬將柳永其人其詞重新梳理，冀以柳永士人身分之定位為始，將柳詞的雅與俗帶入文學史中做整體之討論。 為說明柳永士人身分與宋代文風的關係，本文先著眼於中國傳統士人的性格與相關作品，透過他們在文學中反映出歌頌與哀愁的雙重特質，觀察柳詞中反映士人思維的時代意義。並藉由與屈原、宋玉和敦煌詞之討論，說明柳詞在雅俗創作上的淵源與革新，以見其詞之文化意義。 最後，透過柳詞和王喆、關漢卿作品的比較，由創作手法和內容風格方面，討論柳詞在宋元詞曲發展上的影響，說明柳詞在文學史上，具有延續唐宋詞軌跡，和推進詞體發展的重要價值。同時，也透過跨代作家與作品的異同比較，觀看一條由「士不遇」情感，衍生而出的「才」與「狂」之文學精神。
