  • The Global ETD Search service is a free service for researchers to find electronic theses and dissertations. This service is provided by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
Our metadata is collected from universities around the world. If you manage a university/consortium/country archive and want to be added, details can be found on the NDLTD website.

Performance analysis of mixtures of fixed and mobile transactions over wireless computing environments

Al-Qerem, Ahmad H. January 2008 (has links)
As technological advances are made in software and hardware, the feasibility of accessing information "any time, anywhere" is becoming a reality. In a mobile computing environment, a potentially large number of mobile and fixed users may simultaneously access shared data; therefore, there is a need to provide a means to allow concurrent management of transactions. Specific characteristics of mobile environments make traditional transaction management techniques no longer appropriate. This is due to a fact that the ACID properties of transactions are not simply followed, in particular the atomicity property. Thus, transaction management models adopting weaker forms of atomicity are needed. In the first part of this thesis, a performance evaluation of three common execution strategies for mobile transactions, the mobile host strategy (MHS), the fixed host strategy (FHS), and the combined host strategy (CHS), is conducted.

Trusted collaboration in distributed software development

Watkins, Ellis Rowland January 2007 (has links)
Distributed systems have moved from application-specific, bespoke and mutually incompatible network protocols to open standards based on TCP/IP, HTTP, and SGML - the foundations of the World Wide Web (WWW). The emergence of the WWW has brought about a revolution in computer resource discovery and exploitation across organisational boundaries. Examples of this can be seen with recent advances in Security and Service Orientated Architectures such as Web Services and Grid middleware. Expansion of the WWW has seen the development of the Semantic Web, a layer on top of the WWW where content is enriched and made interoperable through standards such as RDF and OWL. Our work in these fields has brought together different ideas to further the advancement of version control; the SemanticWeb, Service Orientated Architectures, strong cryptography and the highly dynamic and collaborative WikiWikiWeb. Our online collaborative tool takes advantage of Description Logics, Named Graphs, digital signatures and Grids technologies, to improve collaboration for software engineers working in distributed software development, using semantic knowledge federation and inference rules. Such a system goes well beyond any current version control technology and demonstrates the value and future potential of Semantic Web technologies over traditional Relational Database Management Systems and overly expressive logics such as Prolog.

Σακελλαρόπουλος, Άγγελος 02 February 2011 (has links)
Nowadays network applications tend to be distributed and multi-tier due to rapid development of such applications. Modelling and monitoring performance of these services is a very interesting topic. My work targets to simulate and model multi-tier applications and present techniques that discover the hidden relationships among components of a network that consist of parts of specific applications. The simulator I used was OPNET.

Ρευστομηχανική και grid

Κωνσταντινίδης, Νικόλαος 30 April 2014 (has links)
The need to solve large problems and the development of internet technology, has resulted in the need to find more and more resources. This need led to the creation of structures collaborating systems, with a view to solving problems that require large computing power or storage of large amounts of data. The existence of such structures and central processing units with more than one processor, created protocols for the develop applications that will run and will solve a problem in more than one processor in order to achieve the reduction in execution time. An example of such a protocol is that of messaging (MPI). The purpose of this diploma thesis is to modify an existing application that requires significant computing power to exploit systems such as those described above. Through this process will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of parallel programming.
