A power study of multiple range and multiple F tests

Wine, R. Lowell 12 January 2010 (has links)
In the study of multiple comparisons tests the following topics were discussed: (i) extension to the general case of certain properties and results which previously had been given for three and four means only, (ii) power vectors and average power, (iii) expressions of power for the multiple range tests and for the multiple F test involving only three means, and (iv) methods for evaluating power. These four topics are amplified in order in the four paragraphs below. A set of recursion formulas was obtained for enumerating the decision patterns for n means. xi was given by the equation See: Equation where i = 1, 2,...,n-1. In IV, formulas were derived which express dj,i+1 as a function of the xi. This made possible the writing of the bounding equations for any decision region involving n means. The regions (1,2), (1,2,3), (1,2,4), ..., (1,2....,n) for the multiple range tests were described in the sample-space of differences among n means. / Ph. D.

The restoring of dark cottons to the original stiffness after laundering

Gough, Emma Lusetta 07 April 2010 (has links)
Dark cottons are becoming popular for wearing apparel. Powdered starch customarily used in the home for restoring stiffness to cottons after laundering produces a spotted white product when used on dark cottons. Thus, homemakers are demanding information on ways to restore dark cottons to the original stiffness after laundering. where was no research in the published literature available to the investigator which was designed to answer this problem. / Master of Science

The concentration of germanium in coal

Schaaf, Herbert L. 07 April 2010 (has links)
In this investigation, approximately 500 pounds of germaniferous coal was sampled and split into size and specific gravity fractions. The specific gravity fractions were analyzed for ash, volatile matter, fixed carbon, and germanium. Richer fractions of the coal were further treated by solvent extraction, and on the basis of these tests, extraction tests of varying times were conducted. In addition, a sample of the coal was tested by froth flotation and the effects of flotation on germanium concentration were noted. Size and specific gravity separations have given products that contain two to three times as much germanium as the feed. Solvent extraction with suitable solvents was able to give products that contained as high as 250 times the germanium content of the feed. Froth flotation produced concentrations of the germanium that were only one and a half times greater than obtained in feed. The greatest concentration made by burning the coal was 50 to 1 when comparing the germanium in the ash to the germanium in the sample. / Master of Science

Sigma phase in the ternary systems chromium-cobalt-copper and chromium-manganese-copper

DeBoskey, Wentzle R. 07 February 2013 (has links)
The initial part of this investigation was to determine the ternary isothermal sections for the Cr-Co-Cu system and the Crâ Mm-Cu system at lOOO°C. and 975°C., respectively. This was done by vacuum melting the Cr-Co~Cu alloys and annealing these alloys in an inert atmosphere of a helium-hydrogen gas mixture. The Cr-Mn-Cu alloys were melted under a helium atmosphere and annealed in evacuated Vycor tubes. By the use of metallographic techniques and x-ray analysis the phases present in each alloy were determined and the two ternary isotherml sections constructed. It was found that copper had a very limited solid solubility in the sign phase of both systems. The sigma field in the Cr-Co-Cu 1000°C. ternary isothermal comes into equilibrium with the terminal solid solutions of chromium, cobalt, and copper. In the Cr-Mn-Cu ternary isothermal section sigma comes into equilibrium with the terminal solid solution of chromium and cobalt and the face-centered cubic solid solution of copper in manganese. From these data the electron vacancy scheme(16) may not be extended to include copper due to the limited solid solubility of copper in sigma. Also, the extent of copper solubility in the sigmas cannot be related to the solubility of the copper in cobalt or manganese. / Master of Science

A study of the amount of time devoted to certain clerical typewriting duties performed in selected business offices in Montgomery and Roanoke counties with implications for office training programs

Hall, Alonzo Lee 26 April 2010 (has links)
Because no attempt is made in this study to determine the degree of difficulty in learning to perform the various areas of clerical typewriting, no definite recommendations for revising the training schedule in the high school second-year typewriting class will be made. / Master of Science
