Perceived fairness of performance assessments in the implementation of performance management and development system in a government department.

Maseti, Pumza Penelope. January 2014 (has links)
M. Tech. Business Administration / The Department of Water Affairs has implemented the Performance Management and Development System for more than ten years, but every year the Department of Water Affairs Human Resources department has been dealing with various complaints from both supervisors and supervisees which signals some level of dissatisfaction with the system. The difficulty of measuring performance and the involvement of subjective human judgment makes the design of performance management systems challenging. This study was undertaken as an attempt to ascertain the employee perceptions of the procedural, distributive, and interactional fairness of performance assessments in implementing the Performance Management and Development System within the Department of Water Affairs.

Performance management as a tool to improve performance outcomes at a water trading entity.

Legong, Fhatuwani Emmanuel. January 2014 (has links)
M. Tech. Business Administration / Over the past few years, there has been increasing evidence in the literature on performance management of the importance of performance management (PM) as a tool to increase desired employee outcomes. The South African public service is facing significant challenges on several fronts in sustaining its human resource management so that it will be instrumental in providing quality service delivery to all public stakeholders in the 21st century. The continued success of any public institution in the service industry depends on its employees' contribution and commitment. This means that human resources are a vital resource that contributes to a public institution's effectiveness. In order to improve service delivery in the public sector, performance management was introduced as a means of improving employee outcomes in the Water Trading Entity (WTE). The purpose of this study was to investigate how the current performance management practices within the WTE (e.g., providing employees with feedback on strengths and weaknesses; development needs; resources needed by employees; as well as opportunities for monitoring) are related to the achievement of specific desired performance outcomes. The research was undertaken in the WTE that operates within the Department of Water Affairs.

Systém hodnocení zaměstnanců ve vybrané organizaci / Evaluation of Employees in Selected Organization

ESSEROVÁ, Hana January 2017 (has links)
The thesis is focused on the evaluation system of employees in a chosen organization. The objective of this thesis is to assess the current system of the employee rating system and suggest some changes to improve this system. The evaluation of workers should interfere with the regular organizational planning and generally become a part of the whole organization management. The work elements of the 360 ° feedback method are used in the form of self-assessment forms. The summary of my findings is provided in the conclusion of this thesis.

Agreement Between Self and Other Ratings in Multi-Rater Tools: Performance, Alternative Measures, and Importance.

Grahek, Myranda 08 1900 (has links)
Multi-rater tools also referred to as 360-degree feedback tools, are frequently used in addition to traditional supervisory appraisals due to sources (i.e., supervisor, peer, direct report) unique perspectives and opportunities to view different aspects of job performance. Research has found that the differences among sources are most prevalent between self and other ratings, and the direction of agreement is related to overall job performance. Research has typically focused on one form of agreement, the direction of an individual's self-ratings compared to others' ratings. The current study expanded on past research on rater agreement using a data set (n = 215) consisting of multi-rater data for professionals participating in a leadership development process. The study examined the ability to predict job performance with three different measures of self-other agreement (i.e., difference between overall mean scores (difference), mean absolute difference across items (difference), and mean correlation across items (similarity)). The study also examined how the relationships may differ across performance dimensions. The final purpose was to explore how the importance of the performance dimensions, as rated by the participant, may moderate the relationship between self-other agreement and job performance. Partial support for study's hypotheses was found. The direction and difference measures of agreement on the overall multi-rater tool and performance dimensions accounted for a significant amount of the variance in job performance. The relationship between the similarity measure of agreement and job performance, and the moderating effect of importance were not supported in the current study.

Cultural Implications of Self-Other Agreement in Multisource Feedback: Comparing Samples from US, China, and Globally Dispersed Teams.

Lin, Yue 08 1900 (has links)
Application of multisource feedback (MSF) increased dramatically and became widespread globally in the past two decades, but there was little conceptual work regarding self-other agreement and few empirical studies investigated self-other agreement in other cultural settings. This study developed a new conceptual framework of self-other agreement and used three samples to illustrate how national culture affected self-other agreement. These three samples included 428 participants from China, 818 participants from the US, and 871 participants from globally dispersed teams (GDTs). An EQS procedure and a polynomial regression procedure were used to examine whether the covariance matrices were equal across samples and whether the relationships between self-other agreement and performance would be different across cultures, respectively. The results indicated MSF could be applied to China and GDTs, but the pattern of relationships between self-other agreement and performance was different across samples, suggesting that the results found in the U.S. sample were the exception rather than rule. Demographics also affected self-other agreement disparately across perspectives and cultures, indicating self-concept was susceptible to cultural influences. The proposed framework only received partial support but showed great promise to guide future studies. This study contributed to the literature by: (a) developing a new framework of self-other agreement that could be used to study various contextual factors; (b) examining the relationship between self-other agreement and performance in three vastly different samples; (c) providing some important insights about consensus between raters and self-other agreement; (d) offering some practical guidelines regarding how to apply MSF to other cultures more effectively.

Relationship between the performance management system and improved productivity in a government department in Pretoria.

Andries, Tina Akhona January 2014 (has links)
M. Tech. Busness Administration / Existing research suggests that the Public Sector Performance Management Systems are used to some extent, in support of strategic planning and other governance and managerial functions. However, there is still a gap on the effectiveness of the performance management system. In recent years, organisations have implemented performance management because it leads to better organisational results as reported in many articles and case studies. However, there is little solid empirical evidence of the actual effects performance management has on the quantitative results of the public sector. This study aims to describe the results of a study that explores the quantitative research on the effectiveness of performance management and development in the Department of Cooperative Governance by examining the actual practices in performance management and discuss the rationale for performance management as well as the political and organisational factors influencing this process within this Department.

Systém hodnocení a odměňování pracovníků ve vybrané organizaci / Systém hodnocení a odměňování pracovníků ve vybrané organizaci

REMTOVÁ, Jitka January 2017 (has links)
The goal of this diploma thesis entitled "The evaluation and rewarding systemof employees in a specific organization" was to analyze the evaluation a rewarding system of personal bankers in Moneta Money bank a.s. Based on these analyses, to propose changes, that would contribute to improving the quality and effectiveness of this area. This thesis has two parts. The first part contains a summary of theoretical information relevant to this issue. The practical part contains description of the organization Moneta Money Banks Inc., a description of the evaluation and rewarding system of personal bankers in this organization and an analysis of these systems. The analysis used survey. The survey showed that personal bankers don't have the means or opportunity to evaluate their superior. And personal bankers are missing personal approach by Moneta Money bank a.s. This diploma thesis proposes implementation of these "personal bonuses" into the rewarding system: gifts or bonuses for years of service, for instance at the occasion of eymployee's jubilee. The next proposed change was the introduction of 360-degree feedback.

Looking back and forth: examining communication processes in a marketing research organisation

Watt, Candice L 17 July 2007 (has links)
Communication has been identified as an essential part of a successfully perpetuating system. In conjunction with systemic feedback processes, communication, by its very nature, plays an integral role in the way that the system operates and continues to survive. General systems theory sees communication and feedback as being understood within the context in which they appear as well as in the context of the larger system. This dissertation provides an examination of communication process within the system of a marketing research organisation. Particular attention was given to the departments within the organisation that oversee the research process as a whole. Since the organisation relies heavily on processes, systems and communication to effectively and successfully manage a research project, these aspects were examined from a systems theory perspective in order to identify areas of concern and to provide appropriate recommendations for improvement. The research design was qualitative, and data were collected by means of fourteen in-depth interviews conducted with relevant role players representing management and team members from three areas of expertise. Additional depth to the data was provided through triangulation, using conferences and observation of meetings as additional information sources. Through concept mapping and thematic analysis of the transcripts and other data, four main, interrelated themes relating to communication within the organisation emerged. These are (1) lack of vision, referring to a general and specific lack of a sense of a common goal; (2) inefficient communication processes that cause a gap between top management and other employees regarding decision making, and a lack of feedback and follow-through on expectations; (3) lack of team cohesion, creating a sense of isolation between teams, uncertainty about expectations, and a vagueness regarding roles and responsibilities; and lastly (4) skills and resource limitation, indicating a lack of training and supervision, and a lack of adherence to procedures. In order to improve communication and feedback processes, it is recommended that the organisation clearly communicates goals and objectives to employees; formalises project planning procedures; instates regular meetings that include all staff; implements sufficient and effective supervision and training; and applies a multirater evaluation and appraisal programme. / Dissertation (MA (Research Psychology))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Psychology / unrestricted
