Reconstrução tridimensional de baixo custo a partir de par de imagens estéreo. / Low cost three-dimensional reconstruction using a stereo image pair.

A obtenção e a reconstrução da geometria tridimensional (3D) de objetos e ambientes têm importância crescente em áreas como visão computacional e computação gráfica. As formas atuais de obtenção e reconstrução 3D necessitam de equipamentos e montagens sofisticadas que, por conseqüência, têm custos elevados e aplicação limitada. Este trabalho apresenta criticamente os principais algoritmos para a reconstrução 3D a partir de par de imagens estéreo e identifica os mais viáveis para utilização com equipamentos convencionais. Por meio da implementação de alguns destes algoritmos, da comparação dos resultados obtidos em sua execução e também pela comparação com os resultados encontrados na literatura, são identificadas as principais deficiências. São propostas adequações aos algoritmos existentes, em particular, é apresentada a proposta da técnica das faixas que proporciona a redução drástica no consumo de memória para o processamento da geometria 3D e que possui desempenho computacional melhor em relação às técnicas tradicionais. Foi implementado um protótipo de sistema de reconstrução 3D que permite a reconstrução pelas diferentes técnicas estudadas e propostas, bem como permite visualizar o cenário reconstruído sob diferentes pontos de vista de forma interativa. / The acquisition and reconstruction of three-dimensional (3D) geometry of objects and environments have their importance growing in areas such as Computer Vision and Computer Graphics. The current methods to acquire and reconstruct three-dimensional data need sophisticated equipments and assemblies, which have expensive costs and limited applications. This work presents the main algorithms for 3D reconstruction using a pair of stereo images and identifies which are viable to use with conventional equipments. Through the implementation of some of these algorithms, by comparing the results obtained and comparing with the results presented in the literature, the main limitations were identified. This work proposes adjustments in the existing algorithms, in particular it proposes the stripping technique, which provides a huge memory usage reduction for 3D geometry processing and better computing performance if compared with traditional approaches. A prototype system for 3D reconstruction was implemented, which allows the reconstruction using the different researched and proposed techniques and allows interactive visualization of the reconstructed scene in different angles.

Mesure de vibrations par vision 3D / 3D vision vibration measurement

La finalité de cette thèse est d’étudier la pertinence et les limites des méthodes de vision 3D couplées à une caméra ultra-rapide pour la mesure de champs vibratoires, sans contact et de manière synchrone, dans le domaine des fréquences associées à la vibro-acoustique. Un premier montage pseudo stéréoscopique, issu de la robotique, mobilisant un jeu de quatre miroirs afin de générer deux vues virtuelles à partir d’une seule caméra réelle, a été testé sur une plaque et un haut-parleur. Les résultats, validés par comparaison avec ceux obtenus avec un vibromètre laser, attestent de la pertinence de l’approche en dépit des contraintes liées aux éléments optiques. Dans une logique de simplification, trois autres montages ont alors été proposés et testés, permettant de concevoir deux techniques de mesure de vibration plein champ et une méthode itérative de rectification d’images (IRIs), adaptées au contexte. La méthode sans miroir utilise une ligne mathématique pour la triangulation et est fondamentalement adaptée à la mesure de vibrations mono-axiales d'objets globalement plans, affichant des déplacements non-répétables selon la normale de la surface ou selon un axe connu. La méthode à caméras asynchrones, quant à elle, utilise une caméra ultra-rapide et une caméra rapide, et permet la mesure de vibrations multi-axiales de phénomènes vibratoires 3D. Les résultats obtenus sur le capot d’une voiture et sur un haut-parleur attestent de son potentiel pour la caractérisation de panneaux ou le test qualité de fin de chaine d’assemblage de haut-parleurs par exemple. En conclusion, les trois protocoles de mesure et les résultats associés sont comparés afin de cibler leurs potentialités et limites respectives dans le contexte de la mesure de vibrations. / The objective of this Ph.D is to study the relevance and limits of 3D vision methods coupled to high-speed cameras and applied to non-contact synchronous vibration measurement, in the vibro-acoustic range of frequencies. A first pseudo stereoscopic set-up, taken from robotics, using a four-mirror adapter in order to generate two virtual viewpoints from a single real camera, has been tested on a plate and a loudspeaker. The results, validated by comparison with those obtained with a laser vibrometre, prove the relevance of the approach, despite some constraints related to the optical elements. In a logic of simplification, three other set-ups have then been proposed and tested, allowing designing two full-field vibration measurement techniques and a method for the Iterative Rectification of Images (IRIs), adapted to the context. The no-mirror method uses a mathematical line to triangulate positions and is basically suited to measure the single-axis vibrations of globally plane objects, displaying non-repeatable displacements along the normal of the surface or along a known axis. The asynchronous cameras technique requires a high-speed and an industrial camera used simultaneously to measure the multi-axis displacements of 3D vibratory phenomena. The results obtained on a car bonnet and a loudspeaker prove its potential to characterise large panels or to carry out end-of-line testing of loud-speakers for example. In conclusion, the three measurement protocols and the associated results are compared in order to assess their respective potentialities and limits in the context of vibration measurement.

Reconstruction active par projection de lumière non structurée

Cette thèse porte sur la reconstruction active de modèles 3D à l’aide d’une caméra et d’un projecteur. Les méthodes de reconstruction standards utilisent des motifs de lumière codée qui ont leurs forces et leurs faiblesses. Nous introduisons de nouveaux motifs basés sur la lumière non structurée afin de pallier aux manques des méthodes existantes. Les travaux présentés s’articulent autour de trois axes : la robustesse, la précision et finalement la comparaison des patrons de lumière non structurée aux autres méthodes. Les patrons de lumière non structurée se différencient en premier lieu par leur robustesse aux interréflexions et aux discontinuités de profondeur. Ils sont conçus de sorte à homogénéiser la quantité d’illumination indirecte causée par la projection sur des surfaces difficiles. En contrepartie, la mise en correspondance des images projetées et capturées est plus complexe qu’avec les méthodes dites structurées. Une méthode d’appariement probabiliste et efficace est proposée afin de résoudre ce problème. Un autre aspect important des reconstructions basées sur la lumière non structurée est la capacité de retrouver des correspondances sous-pixels, c’est-à-dire à un niveau de précision plus fin que le pixel. Nous présentons une méthode de génération de code de très grande longueur à partir des motifs de lumière non structurée. Ces codes ont l’avantage double de permettre l’extraction de correspondances plus précises tout en requérant l’utilisation de moins d’images. Cette contribution place notre méthode parmi les meilleures au niveau de la précision tout en garantissant une très bonne robustesse. Finalement, la dernière partie de cette thèse s’intéresse à la comparaison des méthodes existantes, en particulier sur la relation entre la quantité d’images projetées et la qualité de la reconstruction. Bien que certaines méthodes nécessitent un nombre constant d’images, d’autres, comme la nôtre, peuvent se contenter d’en utiliser moins aux dépens d’une qualité moindre. Nous proposons une méthode simple pour établir une correspondance optimale pouvant servir de référence à des fins de comparaison. Enfin, nous présentons des méthodes hybrides qui donnent de très bons résultats avec peu d’images. / This thesis deals with active 3D reconstruction from camera-projector systems. Standard reconstruction methods use coded light patterns that come with their strengths and weaknesses. We introduce unstructured light patterns that feature several improvements compared to the current state of the art. The research presented revolves around three main axes : robustness, precision and comparison of existing unstructured light patterns to existing methods. Unstructured light patterns stand out first and foremost by their robustness to interreflections and depth discontinuities. They are specifically designed to homogenize the indirect lighting generated by their projection on hard to scan surfaces. The downside of these patterns is that matching projected and captured images is not straightforward anymore. A probabilistic correspondence method is formulated to solve this problem efficiently. Another important aspect of reconstruction obtained with unstructured light pat- terns is their ability to recover subpixel correspondences, that is with a precision finer than the pixel level. We present a method to produce long codes using unstructured light. These codes enable us to extract more precise correspondences while requiring less patterns. This contribution makes our method one of the most accurate - yet robust to standard challenges - method of active reconstruction in the domain. Finally, the last part of this thesis adresses the comparison of existing reconstruction methods on several aspects, but mainly on the impact of using less and less patterns on the quality of the reconstruction. While some methods need a fixed number of images, some, like ours, can accommodate fewer patterns in exchange for some quality loss. We devise a simple method to capture an optimal correspondence map that can be used as a groundtruth for comparison purposes. Last, we present several hybrid methods that perform quite well even with few images.

This application will be able to distinguish several objects based on data from a camera with deep perception and should find the location of object, recognize it and determine its location and orientation. Bin Picking is one of the biggest challenges in today's automation.
