Student nurses' experiences of their clinical accompanimentMogale, Lesego C. 08 1900 (has links)
An exploratory, descriptive qualitative design was used to describe and explore how the students experienced their clinical accompaniment in a specific programme.
The researcher conducted a tape recorded interview to a 14 individual students, who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study, transcription followed, then data analysis was done following the steps as described by De Vos, Srydom, Fouché and Delport (2005:334) citing Creswell (1998:142) where open coding leads to themes and subthemes.
From the findings of this study it was discovered that the students experienced dissatisfaction in terms of their development of clinical skills to competence as they were not given an opportunity due to negative circumstances around their training. Recommendations were made to improve clinical accompaniment of student nurses for all involved so that the student nurses acquire clinical skills, knowledge and values. / Health Studies / M.A. (Health Studies)

Comparative study on key factors within the roles and functions of professional nurses working in different nursing unitsKhosa, Khazamula Phineas 05 1900 (has links)
The aim o f this study was to determine the key factors within the
roles and functions of professional nurses working in different
nursing units with the purpose for motivation for their compensation
in accordance with their performance. A comparative, descriptive
design was employed.
Findings reveal that the professional nurse’s roles and functions in
the different units show that there are some significant differences
regarding certain activities while differences pertaining to other
activities were not significant. However, there were factors which
were subjected to a number o f limitations during the study.
Apart from the significant differences, it thus appears as if the roles
and functions required o f professional nurses working in the three
disciplines do not vary much in content and intensity.
From the findings o f this study, it therefore, does not appear as if
paediatric professional nurses have a valid reason for expecting
additional monetary rewards in view o f their roles and functions. / Health Studies / M.A. (Health Studies)

The role of the enrolled nursing auxiliary in a selected health care administrationMabunda, Edith Tiyani 01 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the contribution of nursing auxiliaries towards
health care services against their scope of practice.
Nursing auxiliaries practising within the Elim, Letaba, Malamulele, Nkhensani, Shiluvana and
Tintswalo hospitals in the Gazankulu Health Administration, in the Northern Transvaal
Province, constituted the target population.
The findings revealed that nursing auxiliaries are not functioning strictly according to their
scope of practice.
They are an essential component of nursing services in Gazankulu by rendering a major
contribution towards health care services in fulfilling their scope of practice-role.
Apart from their prescribed practice-role, they are also engaged in activities that should be
performed by enrolled and professional nurses as well as doctors and general assistants.
There appears to be a need for education for all categories of nursing staff regarding the
scope of practice of nursing auxiliaries for improving the effective utilisation of this category
of nursing personnel / M.A. (Nursing Science) / Health Studies
