  • The Global ETD Search service is a free service for researchers to find electronic theses and dissertations. This service is provided by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
Our metadata is collected from universities around the world. If you manage a university/consortium/country archive and want to be added, details can be found on the NDLTD website.

The preparation and properties of uranium monophosphide

Driscoll, J. L. January 1967 (has links)
The use of fissile ceramic compounds as nuclear fuels is discussed. Previous work on the preparation of uranium monophosptli1e (a possible nuclear fuel) is reviewed. Preliminary experiments carried out on the preparation are described and the results obtained used to modify the preparation apparatus. Uranium monophosph1de wae prepared by the direct reaction between uranium and phosphorus. The reactions taking place were investigated and each batch of material characterised by sieve, chemical and x-ray analyses. Fabrication by cold pressing and sintering and by hot pressing was investigated. The structure and properties of uranium monophosphide are discussed and compared with other nuclear ceramic compounds. Conclusions are drawn on the potential of uranium monophosphide as a nuclear fuel
