Teplova, Natalia. January 2005 (has links)
Divided into six chapters, our thesis examines the translation of Evgenyi Onegin, a novel in verse by Aleksandr Pushkin, in France and Japan in the 20th century. In Chapter 1, we introduce our methodological approach, including the eight elements of our translation analysis: the by-who, the who, the what, the for-who, the when, the why, the where, and the how. In Chapter 2, after a brief biography of the Russian poet, we examine his central work Evgenyi Onegin, and its unique structuro-phono-semantic synthesis. The first French mention of Pushkin was in the 19th century, and the 'transfer-related discourse' of that period is the focus of Chapter 3, particularly its creation of the myth of the poet's untranslatability, which would influence translators of the Pushkinian novel into the 20 th century. In Chapter 4, we examine the 11 French translations produced between 1902 and 1996. Because the Japanese discovery of foreign literature---and Pushkin---was the product of political changes during the Meiji period (1868-1912), it is paramount that we examine the pivotal role of 19 th century ideological discourse in which translation is viewed as a means and a condition for the country's modernization. Finally, in Chapter 6, we turn our attention to the 8 Japanese translations of the Pushkinian work produced between 1921 and 1996. Our aim is to demonstrate how the spatio-temporal change influenced the view of translation in general, and translations of Pushkin in particular.

The interconnection of these activities enabled the development of a mixed economy, which created economic networks between ranchers, farmers and traders, thus forming heterogeneous elite. This was related to a mass of poor and free men who worked the cattle ranches, the farms and small businesses. We believe that these trade relations approached the elite and the poor men, which enabled the recent training in specialized activities, as well as the local business area. This enabled these men would create social strategies, enabling them to act freely in the economy, a profit with their work and generating prospects to be part of Sobral's elite. In our research, we analyzed the working relationships developed in Sobral Village to observe how they occur and how they influenced the personal trajectory of the residents. For this, we use the documents of the Board, which recorded economic activities, realizing the importance of each to the formation of Sobral's population.

Blais-Laroche, Antoine 22 October 2019 (has links)
In light of Marcel Gauchet’s works on disenchantment, we intent in this dissertation to analyze Honoré de Balzac’s views about religion and Christianity, especially in three of his most apologetics novels: Le Médecin de Campagne (The Country Doctor, 1833), Le Curé de Village (The Village Priest, 1841) et L’Envers de l’Histoire Contemporaine (The Seamy Side of History, 1848). Published at different points of Balzac’s career, those novels have in common to illustrate the move toward autonomy of human condition by making religion dependent on human will. Withdrawing Providence, reinterpreting original sin dogma, those thesis novels depict a disenchanted world. From now on, evil can be explained by pathology and religion can be reduced to the treatment of social wounds. Investing all their energy in life here below, Balzac’s characters appear to be freed from any metaphysical ties. In this human comedy that is no longer divine, religion is a mean, never an end.
