Skarp, Therese, Westin, Moa January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this descriptive study was to describe the experiences of individuals with Anorexia Nervosa (AN) according to falling ill, the active phase and to recover from AN. The aim was also to examine the quality of the sample method, in the selected articles. The databases that were used to search for the articles were Cinahl and Scopus. Three main categories emerged; Fall ill, the active phase and to recover and nine subcategories. The result of this study was that individuals with AN used their illness in a way to cope with different emotions. In the first phase, to fall ill, they described that they developed their AN in the belief of that it would contribute to a regain of the feeling of control in their lives. Within the active phase the individuals with AN putted all their focus on the illness and therefor suppressed negative emotions. During the recovery, individuals with AN described that they were forced to find another way than the AN in order to cope with their emotions. The conclusion is that it's important as a health worker to try to developed an understanding for these individuals experiences in order to in the best possible way, be able to support and help them to find another way to cope with their emotions than through their AN.
