Assessment Resistance: Using Kubler-Ross to Understand and RespondTarnoff, Karen A., Bostwick, Eric D., Barnes, Kathleen J. 24 November 2021 (has links)
Purpose: Faculty participation in the assurance of learning (AoL) is requisite both for the effective operation of the system and for accreditation compliance, but faculty often resist engaging in AoL tasks. The purpose of this paper is to provide specific recommendations to address faculty concerns and to guide AoL systems toward maturity. Design/methodology/approach: This paper provides a comprehensive model of faculty resistance perspectives aligned to AoL maturity, provides specific responses to faculty resistance and introduces success markers of progress toward maturity. Findings: Specifically, a three-stage model of AoL system maturity is presented and aligned with five faculty perspectives. For each faculty perspective, responses targeting causal factors are proposed and signs of progress toward the next level of faculty engagement are highlighted. Practical implications: Faculty and AoL leaders will be able to identify their current stage of AoL system maturity and implement practical solutions to move to the next stage of system maturity. Social implications: Understanding the motivations for faculty resistance will facilitate more meaningful and effective internal interactions as a school seeks to improve its AoL system. In turn, a more effective AoL system will promote better learning experiences for students; and better learning allows students to become productive in their chosen careers more quickly, thus improving society as a whole. Originality/value: To the knowledge, no prior paper has organized faculty resistance along a maturity continuum, provided targeted responses based on the level of maturity or included signs that indicate growth toward the next level of maturity.

A Study on China¡¦s Entry Strategies of the Multinational Satellite Television ChannelsHsieh, Kang 31 July 2003 (has links)
The study is to explore China¡¦s entry strategies of the multinational satellite television channels, discussing how satellite television channels of some multinational media corporations entered the highly regulated China market.
As an exploratory research in essence, the study is conducted through literature analysis, case studies, and in-depth interviews. Among them, satellite television channels of the two media giants , AOL Time Warner and News Corp., are the focus of the case studies : corporate characteristics of the two multinational media corporations are taken as independent variables, while China¡¦s entry strategies of the corporations¡¦ satellite television channels are taken as dependent variables. Through this logic, the study attempts to make some propositions about the strategies used by multinational satellite television channels when entering China.
Six preliminary propositions about China¡¦s entry strategies are made in the following aspects : ¡§ difference of the entry channel positioning ¡¨, ¡§ entry timing, local commitment made by the channel, and performance of the entry channel ¡¨, ¡§ value chain integration of the satellite television channel industry and local partnership ¡¨, ¡§ human resources management of the entry channel ¡¨, and ¡§ entry/ investment fields other than the satellite television channel industry ¡¨.
Based on the propositions, the study then concludes that for multinational media corporations, the more inclined the parent company is categorized as multinational company in MNC category, the clearer the parent company/top manager perceives China market, the stronger the top managers¡¦ strategic intent on China market, and the richer experience the parent company owns in foreign market entry, then the more local commitment the multinational satellite television channels would make, which benefits the channel performances as a result.

Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais / This study aimed to evaluate and to compare carcass traits and meat quality in
cattle Nellore and F1 cross between Nellore and Araguaia, where 17 were
from the Nellore group and 19 from ½ Nellore ½ Araguaia. All animals
belonged to the same birth season and were finished in pasture systems, under
the same nutritional, environmental, and management conditions. When the
animals reached slaughter weight, they were taken to the industrial
slaughterhouse where food was withdrawn for a 24 hour period (free access to
water), later they were stunned, bled, the leather was removed and were
eviscerated. The carcasses were weighed (hot weight), kept in chilled storage
for approximately 24 hours at 4°C, and weighed once again to obtain the chilled
carcass weight. The variables analyzed were carcass yield, length and width,
leg length, thigh perimeter, loin eye area (LEA), retail cuts, cooling loss, pH, fat
depth, marbling rate, intramuscular fat, color, shear force and sensory analysis.
Differences (p > 0.05) were observed for the following variables; slaughter
weight, hot and chilled carcass weights, carcass and leg lengths, thigh
perimeter, LEA, retail cuts and lightness (L*), where the F1 cross between
Nellore and Araguaia showed higher means for all of these traits, except for leg
length and L*. Therefore, the crossbreeding between Nellore and Araguaia
cattle did not affect the meat s sensory characteristics, but contributed to the
improvement in carcass traits, being an alternative for farmers that aim for meat
quality, with higher meat percentage.
Nelore e Araguaia.
As
