The economic impact of vegetable production in northeast ArkansasSmith, Angelia D. 28 September 2016 (has links)

Across the region of Northeastern Arkansas row crop production has become the staple of agricultural production. This study evaluates potential economic impacts on the NEA region that may result from diversifying into vegetable crop production. Five vegetables, Okra, Southern Peas, Snap Beans, Summer Squash, and Sweet Potatoes are evaluated. The evaluations entail analyses of potential regional economic impacts, using IMPLAN 3.0. The results exhibit strong multiplier effects and economic contributions in the region to output, employment, value-added, and income generation. The results also show that vegetable production can be an important source of indirect and induced economic activities in the NEA region. These indicate that vegetable production can have positive impacts and linkages in the region’s economy and may not be ignored in developing economic strategies for the region.

Marketing Sheep and Lambs in Utah, 1954-55Holmes, Lloyd I. 01 May 1956 (has links)
The sheep industry of Utah bee an about the middle of the nineteenth century when the Mormon pioneers came to Utah. The first sheep in Utah were of Merino breeding kept primarily for wool production. These breeds were descendants of the early Merino sheep from Spain and were probably introduced into this country by Spanish explores. Sheep are produced to provide food and fiber in Utah. Utah's climate, topography, and natural vegetation are conducive to sheep production. Sheep do well in semi-arid climates and can economically harvest the natural vegetation on land not suited to crop production. Utah has large acreages of land of this nature and is, therefore, an important sheep producing state.
