Estes dois processos vem ocorrendo em Barreiras desde 1980, e têm gerado uma demanda crescente de recursos hídricos. Foi analisada a produção agrícola e pecuária no município, bem como o crescimento urbano, que se consolidaram nos últimos trinta anos. Ao mesmo tempo, foi feita uma análise das vazões do rio Grande entre 1934 e 2012, estabelecendo-se uma periodização com dois recortes de tempo, um primeiro período entre 1934 e 1979, que precede a modernização agrícola e o crescimento urbano, e um segundo período, entre 1980 e 2012. Foi constatado que a vazão do rio Grande vêm sendo reduzida desde 1980 até os dias atuais, e os órgãos responsáveis pela gestão dos recursos hídricos em Barreiras, não vem tomando as devidas medidas para se evitar que se intensifique o risco ambiental quanto à disponibilidade hídrica do rio Grande a médio ou longo prazo. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This master thesis analysed the processes by the agricultural modernization and the populational growth in Barreiras - BA above the water resources by the rio Grande. These two processes have been occurring in Barreiras since 1980, and are engendering a crescent lawsuit by hydric resources. Was analysed the agricultural and cattle breeding production in Barreiras, also the urban growth, that was consolidated between the last thirty years. At the same time was analysated the flows by the rio Grande between 1934 and 2012, establishing two periods of time, the first between 1934 and 1979, that precedes the agricultural modernization, and the second period, between 1980 and 2012. Was verified that the flow of the rio Grande are being reduced since 1980 until now, and the agencies responsible by the management by the water resources in Barreiras, are not making actions to avoid the occurring of an environmental risk related to the hydric availability by the rio Grande in medium or long term.
