With the purpose of quantifying the resprout and the growing characteristics of the lettuce, after being undertaken to different kinds of harvest, the CV Regina 71 was grown from July to October 1997, in hydropony system on expanded clay and soil, under greenhouse and outdoor. The treatments were constituted by eight kinds of harvest, being two by leaves cut above the apical gem, four by manual detachment of leaves with different intensities, one by manual detachment of all leaves with seedling insert and one by the harvest of the air part of the plant (traditional kind). After the harvest of the leaves the resprout of the plants was allowed. The evaluated characteristics were the daily production of the fresh material and the dry material of leaves by each plant and square meter; the diameter, the length and production of the fresh material, dry material of the stem. In hydropony, was also evaluated the production of dry material of the roots. The treatment effects were tested by. The plants that were undertaken to the harvest by the leaves out had got lower daily average production of fresh and dry material of the leaves in relation to the ones picked by leaves detachment and by the traditional kind, in all systems. The daily production of fresh and dry material of the leaves didn’t differ among the plants undertaken to the harvest by leaves detachment and the traditional kind, in the growing system under outdoor soil and greenhouse; however in the hydropony system the harvests by detachment leaves increased the production in 20% contrasted to the traditional kind. The picked plants by partial detachment of the leaves (1/3 and 2/3) showed production of fresh material of the leaves bigger than the ones picked by total detachment: 10% in hydropony system growing and 42% in outdoor soil. In the harvest of the 1/3 leaves detachment the productions of the fresh and dry material of the leaves in each plant were bigger than in the harvest of 2/3 leaves detachment in the hydropony system growing and outdoor soil. In the harvest by total detachment of the leaves the intercalated plant action of seedlings increased the daily production of the fresh and dry material of the leaves by square meter in the outdoor soil, however it reduced the production in the hydropony system growing. The plants in hydropony undertaken to the leaves harvest presented weight reduction in the roots dry material. The harvest by detachment of 1/3 of leaves is the most indicated for lettuce leaves commerce. The relation between the cost and benefit of this new lettuce harvest technic must be evaluated.
