Contribuição ao conhecimento da ação algicida do sulfato de cobre, em especial sobre a cianofícea Microcystis flos-aquae (Wittrock) Kirchner. O presente trabalho descreve a técnica empregada para a obtenção de culturas unialgáceas de Microcystis flos-aguae (Wittrock) Kirchner e de culturas mistas onde coexistiam vários gêneros de algas mas com predominância da referida cianofícea, simulando a situação do ambiente natural. Estas culturas foram expostas a 0,1 mg/l e 0,2 mg/l do algicida CuSO4 5H2O (sulfato de cobre pentahidratado) por períodos variáveis de tempo. A espécie Microcystis flos-aquae (Wittrock) Kirchner, quando em cultura unialgáceas, resistiu por mais tempo à ação do algicida do que quando em culturas mistas. / Contribution to the knowledge on copper sulfate as an algicide, with special reference to the blue-green alga Microcystis flos-aquae (Wittrock) Kirchner. The present work describes the techniques employed in order to obtain unialgal cultures of Microcystis flos-aquae (Wittrock) Kirchner as well as mixed cultures where other genera of algae were present but Microcystis flos-aquae (Wittrock) Kirchner was by far more numerous similarly as it occurs in nature. These cultures were exposed to 0,1mp/l and 0,2mg/l CuSO4 . 5H2O Cpentahydrate copper sulfate) through variable periods. Unialgal cultures of Microcystis flos-aguae (Wittrock) Kirchnero resisted longer to the algicide than mixed ones.

Many experiments have been performed with the Warburg apparatus, or variations of this manometric technique, since Warburg's experiments (52, 53) where the effects of cyanides upon dark reactions and of urethanes upon light reactions of photosynthesis were demonstrated. The same basic techniques were utilized in this research in attempting to determine the effects of some coordination complexes upon the apparent photosynthetic rate of Chlorella pyrenoidosa. A second goal of the present paper was to investigate the potential of the Warburg apparatus as a tool for screening algicidal compounds.
