A produção de cana-de-açúcar nesse território apesar de antiga era pouco expressiva até a década de 1990. Desde então, a área plantada teve um aumento significativo, que se intensificou principalmente na primeira década do século XXI, devido aos incentivos estatais à produção de Etanol e ao aumento da demanda global por combustíveis renováveis e açúcar. Assim, essa Região conhecida desde o final do século XIX, como Cinturão Cafeeiro de Franca, vem sofrendo um processo simultâneo de convivência e reestruturação produtiva do café com a cana-de-açúcar, acarretando em transformações no campo e nas cidades. Dessa forma, o presente estudo analisa as implicações decorrentes da expansão da cana-de-açúcar na Região da Alta Mogiana Paulista, como: a modernização e a perda da diversidade agrícola, a concentração fundiária, as modificações no mercado de trabalho e a dinâmica populacional. A análise das características dos circuitos espaciais produtivos do setor sucroenergético e seus respectivos círculos de cooperação revelam a maneira como vêm ocorrendo essas transformações nessa Região devido à reconversão produtiva do espaço agrícola e seu convívio com as outras atividades agrícolas principalmente com a cafeicultura / The present study analyses the implications arising from the sugarcane expansion in the Alta Mogiana region. Despite being former, the sugarcane production in this territory was relatively unexpressive until the 1990s. Thereafter, the acreage increased significantly, intensifying itself particularly over the 2000s due to incentive programs of the government to the ethanol production, and increased global demand for renewable fuels and sugar. Therefore, this region known as ―Coffee Belt‖ since the late nineteenth century, has been suffering a process of simultaneous coexistence and productive restructuring of the coffee plantations and sugarcane, resulting in changes in rural and urban areas. Thereby, the present study investigated the implications of the sugarcane expansion in this region, such as modernization and loss of the agricultural diversity, land concentration, changes in the market and population dynamics. Analysis of the characters of the sugarcane industry productive space circuit and their respective cooperation circles show how these transformations in this region are happening due to productive reconversion of the agricultural space and its interactions with others agricultural activities, especially with the coffee plantations

A pesquisa vem contribuir e confrontar com estudos relativos à região da Alta Mogiana que tem como ênfase principal a cafeicultura como fator predominante. Noutros termos, a imigração, especialmente a italiana, teve vínculos parciais com a produção do café que não envolvia totalmente o cotidiano desta mão-de-obra. Visão até então não muito desvendada e demonstrada, o que este trabalho procura contribuir. É um novo olhar sobre a imigração italiana que vivia às margens e nos corredores dos cafezais / Abstract: The work aims to evaluate the economic daily of the Italian immigrants at the turn of the nineteenth to the twentieth century, between 1887 and 1914 in Ribeirão Preto - SP, linked to economic activity known as domestic supply and livelihoods. The study is a contribution and to compare with studies on the region of Upper Mogiana which has as its primary focus to coffee as the predominant factor. In other words, immigration, especially in Italy, had links with the partial production of coffee that did not involve all of the daily manpower. Vision unveiled so far not much and demonstrated what this paper seeks to contribute.
