Este trabajo de investigación realiza un diagnóstico general de los avances teóricos realizados sobre el paisaje haciendo énfasis en la categoría cultural. Para ello, se toma como punto de partida un breve reencuentro de los inicios de la academia en el estudio de paisaje. En esta línea, también se reconoce la participación de la geografía en el fomento de su estudio. A partir de ello, se identifican perspectivas en la forma de abordar el paisaje cultural en el contexto de Latinoamérica. Los resultados abordan el paisaje en las artes pictóricas del siglo XVIII durante el contexto del auge burgués en la sociedad europea. Mientras que, en el siglo XIX los avances en la ciencia incrementó el interés de las personas por indagar el paisaje natural y posicionarse ante ella. El siglo después, las materias de estudio del paisaje se especializan hacia las dimensiones y elementos que constituyen el paisaje, hasta que a finales del siglo se plantearon bases para integrar estudios que abarquen las múltiples dimensiones. De este modo, se concluye que la forma de abordar el paisaje en el tiempo fue sumando aportes sustanciales de los avances en las humanidades, las ciencias naturales y sociales hasta llegar a convertirse en un complejo multidisciplinario. / This research makes a general diagnosis of the theoretical advances made on the landscape with emphasis on the cultural category. For this purpose, a brief review of the beginnings of the academy in the study of landscape is taken as a starting point. In this line, the participation of geography in the promotion of its study is also recognized. From this, perspectives are identified in the way of approaching the cultural landscape in the context of Latin America. The results approach the landscape in the pictorial arts of the 18th century during the context of the bourgeois boom in European society. Whereas, in the 19th century advances in science increased people's interest in investigating the natural landscape and positioning themselves before it. The following century, the subjects of study of the landscape specialized towards the dimensions and elements that constitute the landscape, until at the end of the century, the bases were set out to integrate studies that cover the multiple dimensions. In this way, it is concluded that the way of approaching the landscape was adding in time substantial contributions of the advances in humanities, natural and social sciences until it became a multidisciplinary complex.
