Our goal is to comprehend the dynamics of the relationship between the Police and the citizens, discussing results obtained by the analysis of documents produced by the institution itself, as well as data provided by the period’s press and documents that reproduced the government’s official speeches, aiming to clarify how the different layers of the society were able to Interact in the urban environment, and how the police officer’s job was developed in the city’s routine, especially in the dealing with the population in general. We aim, therefore, to understand the elements related to the diversity of Manaus’s urban problems in the proposed period. / Este trabalho tem como tema principal a discussão das relações entre crime/criminalidade urbanos e a instituição policial do Estado do Amazonas, no início do século XX. O nosso objetivo é compreender a dinâmica da relação da polícia com a população citadina, discutindo resultados obtidos através da análise de documentos produzidos dentro da própria instituição, bem como de dados fornecidos pela imprensa do período e de documentos que reproduziam o discurso oficial dos governantes, a fim de esclarecer como as diferentes camadas da sociedade interagiam no ambiente urbano, e como o trabalho do policial se desenvolvia no dia-a-dia da cidade, no trato com a população em geral. Pretende-se, portanto, compreender principalmente os elementos relativos à diversidade dos problemas urbanos da cidade de Manaus no período proposto.
