Combining Social Network and Semantic Content Analysis to Improve Knowledge Translation in Online Communities of Practice

Stewart, Samuel Alan 11 December 2013 (has links)
Establishing online communities of practice is an important part of the knowledge translation process in the modern healthcare system, but these online communities are new entity that is inherently different from traditional communities of practice that are dependent on existing social structures. The objective of this thesis is to combine communication analysis and content analysis to delve deeper into the communications within an online community to try and determine how online communities exist, and how that information can be leveraged to improve online knowledge translation. Using a novel approach this project will map the contents of online conversations to a structured medical lexicon (MeSH), and then use the inherent relationships of that lexicon to calculate term, user and thread similarities within an online community. These similarities, combined with connection analysis results, will provide a much deeper understanding of how online communities function. The methods developed here will then be tested on two separate mailing lists, the Pediatric Pain Mailing List (PPML) and SURGINET, a mailing list of general surgeons.

Hydropolitical peacebuilding : Israeli-Palestinian water relations and the transformation of asymmetric conflict in the Middle East

Abitbol, Eric January 2012 (has links)
Recognising water as a central relational location of the asymmetric Israel- Palestinian conflict, this study critically analyses the peacebuilding significance of Israeli, transboundary water and peace practitioner discourses. Anchored in a theoretically-constructed framework of hydropolitical peacebuilding, it discursively analyses the historical, officially-sanctioned, as well as academic and civil society water and peace relations of Israelis and Palestinians. It responds to the question: How are Israeli water and peace practitioners discursively practicing hydropolitical peacebuilding in the Middle East? In doing so, this study has drawn upon a methodology of interpretive practice, combining ethnography, foucauldian discourse analysis and narrative inquiry. This study discursively traces Israel's development into a hydrohegemonic state in the Jordan River Basin, from the late-19th century to 2011. Recognising conflict as a power-laden social system, it makes visible the construction, production and circulation of Israel's power in the basin. It examines key narrative elements invoked by Israel to justify its evolving asymmetric, hydrohegemonic relations. Leveraging the hydropolitical peacebuilding framework, itself constituted of equality, partnership, equity and shared ii sustainability, this study also examines the discursive practices of Israeli transboundary water and peace practitioners in relationship with Palestinians. In so doing, it makes visible their hydrohegemony, hydropolitical peacebuilding, and hydrohegemonic residues. This study's conclusions re-affirm earlier findings, notably that environmental and hydropolitical cooperation neither inherently nor necessarily constitute peacebuilding practice. This work also suggests that hydropolitical peacebuilding may discursively be recognised in water and peace practices that engage, critique, resist, desist from, and practice alternative relational formations to hydrohegemony in asymmetric conflicts.

BEYOND THE WORKSHOP: UNDERSTANDING HOW NEW WORKER TRAINING INFLUENCES THE APPLICATION OF NEGLECT BY FRONTLINE C.A.S. WORKERS

Nair, Sanober 11 1900 (has links)
Little attention has been paid in Canadian Child Welfare research to the role that training plays in engaging new workers as they enter the complex role of child protection. Focusing on learning principles such as child neglect and working with an ethno-racial Other, it was important to understand what workers took away from their engagement in training and how this was implemented in practice. A mixed methods approach using critical analysis of the OACAS Handouts was used to inform the Semi Structured Interviews conducted with frontline C.A.S. workers. Critical Race Analysis provides theoretical foundation to understand how the ethno-racial other is perceived and enacted in discourse that workers take away into practice. Findings suggest that C.A.S. workers have a conflicted view of training due to the nature and context in which they practice. Aside from the benefits of training, workers have a lot to say about how it could be structured in order to benefit practice. Workers also have complex and conflicting views on neglect, some of which are learned through training and then exacerbated through practice. Workers practice principles on engaging with an ethno-racial other was not influenced through training, but through their own learning processes as influenced by practice and earlier education. These factors relating to child welfare workers can help influence future training within C.A.S. organizations across Canada. / Thesis / Master of Social Work (MSW)

Vampola, Jindřich January 2020 (has links)
Title: Goal Analysis of mutual matches between the best four Czech teams in Czech football league season 2018/2019 Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is analysis of goals scored between the best four Czech football teams in 2018/2019 season. Furthermore, this thesis aims for comparison of examined variables with data from European competition - Champions league (year 2018/2019). A partial goal then is to create recommended exercises for training practice. Methods: In this thesis is used methods of quantitative analysis and comparison. We mainly used the method of indirect observation of video records. Overall, 18 matches of Czech league and 125 matches of Champions league were analysed. In these matches were scored 47 goals in Czech league and 366 goals in Champions league. For normality analysis we used Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk test. For hypothesis analysis we used Man Whitney U test and 2 sample t-test. With the results as a base were created model training exercises to bring the training process closer to match specifications. Results: Czech teams scored significantly more headers in comparison with Champions League. In first touch goals and fruitfulness of shooting they had lower percentage, but it was not statistically significant. Most of the goals in mutual matches of...

It is a case study of a teacher who for 29 years has been working at a music school located in Santa Catarina state, Brazil. Data was collected by observation of classes and also by a semistructured and a stimulated recall interview. The theoretical framework is mainly the conceptions of Shulman about the pedagogical content knowledge and about the processes of transformation, by which the personal repertory of a teacher s own comprehensions becomes a content that others can comprehend. The typology of contents adopted by Zabala and Tardif s discussions related to the constitution of teachers know how and know how to be were also relevant theorical grounds in this research. The results showed that the guitar pieces studied in the classroom constitutes at the same time means and goals. The learning of these pieces is a goal but at the same time they are used as pedagogical material for student s musical and instrumental development. Through them, the teacher approaches contents such as harmonic functions, melody conducting with the instrument, and a critical attitude towards the musical text. The representation of these contents took place in various ways, as demonstrations, explanations, analogies and metaphors. Adaptation to the 12 learners was highly valued by the teacher in the interviews. Teaching experience appeared as a main factor in the estabilishment of his capacity to understand the characteristics of the students and their difficulties. Experience also made possible a critical evaluation of his knowledge received from other sources, among which the guitarristic training stands out. This background was obtained with guitar classes when the teacher was a student. At that time, he learned a great deal of the contents he now teaches and could experience, as a student, the specific pedagogical practices that these contents involve.

Republikánský mýtus polské aristokracie: Raně novověké pojetí politické identity Stanisława Orzechowského a Andrzeje Frycze Modrzewského / Republican Myth of Polish Aristocracy: Early Modern Concept of Political Identity developed by Stanislaw Orzechowski and Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski

Květina, Jan January 2018 (has links)
As the main research interest of this study one is able to highlight the issue of early- modern political thought, whose patterns have been analysed as protomodern grounds within the formative process of national identity. The thesis is based on the assumption that the political discourse of Polish aristocracy can be read as a specific part of European republicanism. Republican attributes are thus supposed to have stood for an essential core of Polish political culture at that time; core that was widely accepted by different political writers irrespective of their ideological distinctions. Hence, the study aims to prove that one is able to find the grounds of Polish "national" self-identification neither in ethnical nor in strict class traits, because concerning the question of identity, there was a crucial concept of a republic, closely linked to the peculiar values of liberty, equality and common good, which played a decisive role. In this regard, the thesis contradicts the traditional categories of Sarmatism or Sonderweg and instead of them, it introduces the concept of republican triangle as the hypothesis that is able to identify interdependence between political thought of that time and the image of Polish noble identity. Regarding methodological approaches, the study is based on the...
