Antoine de Saint Exupéry: A bio-bibliographical studyUnknown Date (has links)
"This emphasis on the importance of a knowledge of bibliography in the professional writings on librarianship led this beginning librarian, in search of a topic for this paper, to decide first to do a study involving wide bibliographic investigation. The choice of the specific subject required more thought. A writer, as the subject, was desired, but one who was not too prolific and who would not be possessively claimed by any one field of knowledge lest this writer be charged with being out of field. After much thought Antoine de Saint Exupery was chosen. His selection was the outgrowth of a desire by this writer to discover the reason for the popularity of his books and a curiosity over the unusual combination of one man's being philosopher, prose-poet, and pilot. The subject having been selected, the next, and most difficult, step was to develop a method of procedure, and directions for this were not lacking: 'In undertaking a bibliographic compilation, one should read as extensively as possible on the subject, because a broad view of the subject greatly enhances understanding of the undertaking.' Hence, the books of St. Exupery were read; standard bibliographic sources were examined; then the material located through them--biography, journal articles, and reviews--was investigated. During this process, notes were meticulously taken, and references were copied and checked. Ultimately, and at long last, sources were exhausted. The results of this labor are given in the body of this paper, which in its presentation is a bio-bibliographical study"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "February, 1952." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Advisor: Robert G. Clapp, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 47-61).
