Time and Emergence: Designing the non-instant landscape

Adams, Scott, scott@tcl.net.au January 2007 (has links)
The aim of this research is to re-consider the discipline of landscape architecture that I practice and know. To consider an aspect of design method or process that is new to my way of working. THrough the critical reflection of past projects, the notion of time, emergence, and the non-instant landscape, has become the focus of this research. How to design for something that can't appear instant or complete at its inception. What approach is taken to respond to the potential changes of the landscape over time? What strategies can be developed to design on very large sites within limited budgets? The Canberra Arboretum project has become the virtualtesting ground for this design research. Exploring ways to design and develop forests the 205-hectare site that anticipate and respond to the emergent effects of time.

Ponava – potenciál rozvoje území / Ponava – potential of area development

Štrba, Matej January 2012 (has links)
The aim of the project is to focus on the future development of an underused urban space of Ponava, to enhance its qualities and to find suitable programme according to general principles of sustainable development. In todays´less favorable economical situation I´m trying to propose interventions, that do not start ´tabula rasa´ and destroy what has been abandoned in time(the stadium), rather they add new layers on it and combine different kinds of social groups in a specific public place.

Automatizace řizení a monitorování prostředí ve skleníku / Greenhouse Automation and Climate Control

Rataj, Pavel January 2015 (has links)
This master’s thesis occupies with measurements and a proposal of optimization the current heating and ventilation system of the greenhouse in Arboretum of Brno. The greenhouse is determined for growing orchids. There were taken long-term measurements in this compound. End results of this master’s thesis are measured data and their analysis, the suggestion for improvement of the whole measurement and regulation system. The part of the document is the numerical simulation of the current environment state in the greenhouse.

Inventarizace a historická analýza exotických dřevin na výzkumném stacionáru Silviculturum v Olomučanech

Kriklová, Tamara January 2015 (has links)
The aim of the thesis was to carry out a historical analysis of the stationary. The current state of tree species, especially the intruducted ones, was determined and their locations were placed into a designed map. The inventory of the current state was then carried out. The data were collected in the area of the research stationary Silviculturum in Olomučany in the years 2014 -2015. The measured values (height of tree, live crown ratio, trunk diameter at breast height, width of crown, number of trunks,...) were compared with the historical data and growth potential of trees was evaluated. Finally, the suitability for local introduction was determined. The outcomes of the thesis are three proposals for future management of the stationary by the Mendel University in Brno.

Patogeny okrasných druhů trav

Schreiberová, Alžběta January 2015 (has links)
The main grass species used as ornamental plants are described in thesis Pathogenes of ornamental grasses. Treatment of the botanical characteristics is provided, with emphasis on their horticultural usage, along with the classification, disorders, damages and diseases of ornamental grasses. The practical part consists of a survey of presence of pathogens on two perennial grass lawns in the Botanical Garden and Arboretum of Mendel University. Included are the description of damages and symptoms of diseases, determination of pathogens and photographic documentation. The work concludes with recommendations for cure.

A Deep Breath of Art

Alkhatib, Sara 16 July 2020 (has links)
In a busy city like Washington D.C., where people tend to work for long hours, and remain in constant fight with deadlines as they try to complete their daily tasks, such lifestyle can be very exhausting. Artists are no exception to that. A preoccupied lifestyle can keep them distant from their inner creativity and would make them lose their inspiration for art. What they really need is to take a step away from this fast society and find a place that offers them the space, time and environment to recharge and reconnect with their art. This thesis explores the role of architecture in creating moving artistic experiences that ignite the artists' inner creativity and feeds their imagination. By using design concepts that encourage their interaction with their surroundings, we can raise their curiosity to explore and observe to help them unleash their creativity. Because ,we, humans are mostly influenced by the spaces we inhabit and spend most of our time in. A proposed artist retreat in the U.S. National Arboretum, creates an architecture that enhances the way artists experience art through the use of proportions, forms, materials, light and shadow. The project consists mainly of two parts, the first part is a place that respects the artists' need for solitude, to be able to self-reflect on their inner self and art. The second part is a place for the artist community, where they socialize and exchange their knowledge and experiences. Moreover, the buildings design aims to breaks the barrier between the inside and outside worlds to help create an intimate experience between the artists and nature. On the other side, there is the relationship between the buildings and the site, where the buildings design, materials and construction respects the landscape of the site and are adaptive to the beauty of the site's seasonal changes. This is how my thesis will explore art through the lens of architecture and give these artists a deep breath of art. / Master of Architecture / In a busy city like Washington DC, where people tend to work for long hours, fight deadlines and try to complete their daily task, such a lifestyle can be very exhausting. Artists are no exception of that, as such lifestyle can keep them distant from their inner creativity and lose their inspiration for art. What they really need is to take a step away from this fast society and find a place that offers them the space, time and atmosphere to recharge and reconnect with their art. This thesis explores the role of architecture in creating moving artistic experiences that ignite the artists' inner creativity and feed their imagination. By using design concepts which encourage their interaction with their surroundings, raises their curiosity to explore, observe and unleash their creativity. Because we humans are mostly influenced by the spaces we inhabit and spend most of our time in. My thesis will be an artist retreat at the US National Arboretum, a place for these artists to practice their art in a natural environment, in places that either encourage them to socialize with the artist community or in single cabins in the forest, that isolate them into their own world. The buildings will act as thresholds that bring the outdoor natural views, sunlight and wildlife to the indoor living spaces to embrace the performance of these artists and let them experience art through the lens of architecture. The buildings also have their own language of how they represent and respect the nature of the site. This is how my thesis will give these artists a deep breath of art.
