Development of ubiquitous manufacturing platform with event-driven smart gateway

Fang, Ji, 方骥 January 2012 (has links)
The recent advancement in computer-integrated manufacturing related technologies (e.g. internet of things, information technology and service-oriented architecture) has prompted the need for a novel effective, efficient and economical automatic identification and data collection solution for manufacturing scenario. Accurate and timely manufacturing front line information is essential to guarantee the functions and performance of enterprise information systems (EISs) deployed, and is the basis of entire information flow in enterprise. Both researchers and commercial players have made great contributions to the fields of enterprise information systems and data capturing technologies. However, real-time data processing and on-line knowledge support to seamlessly link up the EISs and shop floor front-line operations are still open to discuss. This research discusses an overall solution for manufacturing real-time field data capturing, processing and disseminating strategy in ubiquitous manufacturing environment, named Ubiquitous Manufacturing Platform (UMP). This research discusses the design and development of UMP, which is an innovative framework to integrate Auto-ID hardware devices and software services for facilitating manufacturing shop floor production management. The proposed event-driven UMP aims to enable shop floor real-time visibility and traceability, and bridge the gap between frontline operations and management level activities (e.g. planning and scheduling). On one hand, production management objectives are fulfilled through defined and configured services, and eventually carried out at shop floor operating sites with managed Auto-ID devices. On the other hand, the generated shop floor real-time field data is captured as events, which are then processed and aggregated to leveled meaningful information to satisfy various information requirements for different roles in an enterprise. UMP is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of production supervision and decision making, and to reduce the production disturbances. This research has made the following achievements and contributions. Firstly, a scalable and reconfigurable infrastructure for manufacturing real-time field data capturing, processing and disseminating, named UMP, is developed based on several core technologies to achieve seamless dual-way connectivity and interoperability among enterprise application systems, shop floor, production line and workstation levels. Secondly, an innovative information processing mechanism, namely critical event model, is designed to connect the real-time field data in manufacturing processes to implied business context information. Based on this model, real-time field data is able to be organized in various abstract levels, so as to be useful for making adaptive enterprise decisions. Thirdly, a lightweight devices middleware solution named Gateway Operating System (GOS), is designed and proposed to support UMP. GOS enables a unified system interface for manufacturing companies to deploy and manage their heterogeneous Auto-ID devices. Furthermore, it allows multiple back-end manufacturing applications to share the same Auto-ID infrastructure, and shields the application systems from the implementation detail of enabling hardware devices. Fourthly, the gateway event processing procedure is presented to implement the engine for shop floor real-time field data capturing, processing and disseminating. Based on the Auto-ID infrastructure, it combines the concept of event and software agents into workflow management to realize real-time reconfigurable ubiquitous manufacturing. / published_or_final_version / Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering / Doctoral / Doctor of Philosophy

A Governance Reference Model For Service-oriented Architecture-based Common Data Initialization A Case Study Of Military Simulation Federation Systems

Lanman, Jeremy Thomas 01 January 2010 (has links)
Military simulation and command and control federations have become large, complex distributed systems that integrate with a variety of legacy and current simulations, and real command and control systems locally as well as globally. As these systems continue to become increasingly more complex so does the data that initializes them. This increased complexity has introduced a major problem in data initialization coordination which has been handled by many organizations in various ways. Serviceoriented architecture (SOA) solutions have been introduced to promote easier data interoperability through the use of standards-based reusable services and common infrastructure. However, current SOA-based solutions do not incorporate formal governance techniques to drive the architecture in providing reliable, consistent, and timely information exchange. This dissertation identifies the need to establish governance for common data initialization service development oversight, presents current research and applicable solutions that address some aspects of SOA-based federation data service governance, and proposes a governance reference model for development of SOA-based common data initialization services in military simulation and command and control federations.

Prognosis and health monitoring communications quality of service

Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis research was funded by the Southeast National Marine Renewable Energy Center (SNMREC) at Florida Atlantic University. Its objective is the development of Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms for the wireless communications architecture used by the Prognosis and Health Monitoring (PHM) subsystem. There are numerous technical challenges that the PHM Communications Subsystem tries to solve. Due to ocean platform mobility from waves, currents, and other environmental factors, signal quality can vary significantly. As a result, the wireless link between the electric generator platform and shore systems will have variable quality in terms of data rate, delay, and availability. In addition, the data traffic that flows from generator sensors and PHM applications to the shore systems consists of numerous types of messages that have different QoS demands (e.g. delay) and priority that depends on the message type, user ID, sensor location, and application-dependent parameters. The PHM Communications subsystem must handle effectively high priority messages, such as alarms, alerts, and remote control commands from shore systems. It also performs QoS in the application layer, so it can read the contents of every message to prioritize them. In order to perform QoS in the application layer the PHM subsystem relies on Java Servlet multithreaded technology and different queuing techniques to control message transmission order. Furthermore, it compresses all traffic that comes from the ocean-based electric generator/turbine platform to reduce the load on the wireless link. The PHM Communications subsystem consists of three components: the wireless link, the Link Manager, and the Web Services Network Proxy. We present experimental results for the Web Services Network Proxy and demonstrate the effectiveness of XML data compression and semantic-based message scheduling over a link with variable capacity. / by Timur Tavtilov. / Thesis (M.S.C.S.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2011. / Includes bibliography. / Electronic reproduction. A service-oriented component-based framework for enterprise systems development

He, Fangzhou January 2011 (has links)
Thesis (MTech. degree in Software Development.)--Tshwane University of Technology, 2011 / With regards to extending component-based and service-oriented system development approaches and solving current problems related to enterprise systems, this study will explore the requirements and challenges of current enterprise systems, and define an SCSD (Service-oriented Component-based System Development) framework which would provide all-round service-oriented component-based support for a complex application environment. The purpose of this study is to create a novel SCSD framework which combines the features of both component-based and service-oriented paradigms, as well as avoid the weaknesses of the existing service and component combination approaches. The SCSD framework combines the re-usability of the component-based paradigm and the flexibility of the service-oriented paradigm. Reusable SCSD-based components and services can reduce costs, shorten development time, and improve service quality when implemented effectively. The SCSD framework offers an alternative to older system development approaches, while it also provides a new solution in order to establish relationships between services and components for current enterprise systems.

Políticas de privacidade semânticas para descrição e descoberta de serviços na arquitetura orientada a serviços / Semantic privacy policies for service description and discovery in service-oriented architecture

Garcia, Diego Zuquim Guimarães, 1982- 08 October 2011 (has links)
Orientadores: Maria Beatriz Felgar de Toledo, Miriam Akemi Manabe Capretz / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-18T23:55:18Z (GMT). A infra-estrutura proposta pelo framework foi implementada e avaliada através de um cenário no domínio da saúde, uma vez que a preservação da privacidade é uma questão importante nesse domínio / Abstract: Privacy can be defined as the right of an individual to have information about them accessed and used in conformity with what they consider acceptable. Privacy preservation in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an open problem. A solution for this problem must include features that support privacy preservation in each area of SOA. This thesis focuses on the areas of service description and discovery. The problems in these areas are that currently it is not possible to describe how a service provider deals with information received from a service consumer as well as discover a service that satisfies the privacy preferences of a consumer. Research has been carried out in these areas, but there is currently no framework which offers a solution that supports a rich description of privacy policies and their integration in the process of service discovery. Thus, the main goal of this thesis is to propose a privacy preservation framework for the areas of service description and discovery in SOA. The framework enhances service description and discovery with the specification and intersection of privacy policies using a base and domain-specific privacy ontologies. Moreover, the framework enhances these areas with an extension to basic SOA that includes roles responsible for implementing a privacy registry as well as mediating the interactions between service consumers and providers and the privacy preservation component. The framework is evaluated through a health care scenario as privacy preservation is an important issue in this domain / Doutorado / Ciência da Computação / Doutor em Ciência da Computação
