An Anabaptist paradigm for conflict transformation : critical reflections on peacemaking in Zimbabwe

Kraybill, Ronald Sherer January 1996 (has links)
Bibliography: pages 264-277. / This thesis outlines a proposal from an explicitly religious standpoint of the key dimensions of peacebuilding, focusing particularly on mediation and facilitation as a primary task. What is the value of such a study? My initial responses in the paragraphs which follow are made at the broadest possible level: the desperate need for effective peacebuilders in a world torn by violence and the potential for religiously-based peacebuilders to fill that need. I then support this response by examining other reasons for the study: the current inadequacy of religious response to conflicts, the danger of manipulation of religious leadership by other actors, and potential for the insights of religiously-based actors to contribute to the over-all practice of peacebuilding and diplomacy. In addressing the latter question I outline my own understanding of the meaning of "religion", an understanding whose impact on the broad question of peacebuilding I explore throughout the chapters which follow.

Confederate Richmond: A City's Call to Arms

Modesitt, Tucker L 01 January 2015 (has links)
This work mainly focuses on putting the laborers of the Richmond Armory and the Tredegar Iron Works into the context of Civil War Richmond by focusing on their skills, backgrounds, and loyalties throughout the conflict. It highlights the similarities and differences between the two institutions and the legacies that they left behind in the years following the war. It also sheds light on some of the problems facing the Confederacy during the course of the war and its struggle to procure arms.

Organizace a vybavení vojska v 15. století: paralelní vývoj ve Francii, Burgundsku a střední Evropě / Organization and Equipment of the army in 15th century: parallel development in France, Burgundy and in the Central Europe.

Biederman, Jan January 2016 (has links)
Organization and equipment of the army in 15th century: parallel development in France, Burgundy and in the Central Europe The form of the military organization, providing of food supply, technical possibilities and conditions of transport and, of course, a character of armament had share in qualities of the army during the late Middle Ages as well as in the other eras. In this context were important contemporary technical possibilities of the weapon production, commerce of weapons and last but not least also the attitude to the progressively developed group of weapons - firearms. Purpose of this thesis is comparison of aforementioned themes context between the middle Europe with the emphasis on Bohemian lands and francophone west Europe, presented by the kingdom of France both with the duchy of Burgundy. Final aim of this effort is searching of different specifics in the studied regions together with the detection of identical trends and influences. Keywords: military organization - food supply - weapons production and armament - firearms - transport

L’armée de l’air et l’innovation technologique (1945-1966) / The French Air Force and Technological Innovation, 1945-1966

Champonnois, Sylvain 12 October 2012 (has links)
From 1945 to 1966, the evolution of the French Air Force largely depends on technological innovations. The aim of this thesis is to analyze how it became able – both technologically and structurally – to pass from a situation in which it was considered as an old-fashioned entity to the head of the national defense system, thus establishing itself as the third Air Force power. To do so, we identify three essential periods, which illustrate its shift to develop progressively its technological expertise. From 1945 to 1950, it meets several challenges such as technological transfers and jet-powered planes in the early years of the Cold War. From 1951 until 1958, it follows a fast modernization trend in spite of the Colonial Wars, as depicted through the development of aeronautical programs and the use of missiles, in a context of American Help. From 1959 to 1966, the French Air Force then adapts to both nuclear-based weapons and strategies, such as piloted strategic armament systems Mirage IV and structural transfers taken out of the military command integrated by NATO.
