The research is guided by the hypothesis that his production can be inserted in the so-called rebel culture, emphasizing the utopian content in its production, having the assumption to use art as an instrument of intervention and social revolution. The corpus of the research comprises the projects of JR that, since 2005, began to have international scope, such as Women are Heroes (2008 - 2010), Rio de Janeiro and Wrinkles of the City (2008-), Cuba . The artist transits among photography, video, dance, scenography, music and, in the limit, digital media, having a personal website as the final support of his interventions. Thus, in consonance with the extremely hybrid nature of the object and the research hypothesis, the communicational ambience and the intersemiotic relations among the mediatic discourses, involved in creative processes, are equally considered. The state of the art involves studies focused on the historical vanguards, such as Le Siècle Rebelle - Dictionaire de la Contestation au XX Siècle de Emmanuel de Waresquiel. The main theoretical references refer to the theories of the image, as formulated by Rancière in O Destino das Imagens and, alternatively, the Hubermasian theory, with emphasis on the reading model proposed in Diante da Imagem. Methodologically, the research is bibliographical and documentary. We believe that its relevance lies in unveiling an internationally renowned artist, still unkown among us and – above all - pointing out an interesting form of convergence between art and social communication / Interessado nas relações entre as cidades, o cidadão e as artes, este projeto volta-se para a obra do artista urbano multimidiático francês JR. A pesquisa é guiada pela hipótese de que sua produção pode ser inserida nas assim chamadas culturas rebeldes, ressaltando o teor utópico em sua produção; e ainda tem como pressuposto, utilizar a arte como um instrumento de intervenção e revolução social. O corpus da pesquisa compreende os projetos de JR que, a partir de 2005, passaram a ter abrangência internacional, incluindo ações como Women are Heroes (2008 - 2010),no Rio de Janeiro e Wrinkles of the City (2008- ),em Cuba. O artista transita entre a fotografia, o vídeo, a dança, a cenografia, a música e, no limite, o digital, tendo um site pessoal como suporte final de suas intervenções. Assim, a pesquisa se coloca em consonância com a natureza extremamente híbrida do objeto e do artista, a sua ambiência comunicacional e as relações intersemióticas entre os discursos midiáticos envolvidos nos referidos processos criativos. O estado da arte envolve estudos abalizados em torno das vanguardas históricas, a saber de Le Siècle Rebelle - Dictionaire de La Contestation au XX Siècle de Emmanuel de Waresquiel. Os principais referenciais teóricos são referentes às teorias da imagem, tal como formulada por Rancière em O Destino das imagens e, subsidiariamente, a teoria hubermasiana, com ênfase no modelo de leitura das proposto em Diante da Imagem. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa é bibliográfica e documental. Acreditamos que sua relevância está em desvendar um artista em trânsito dentro do universo da arte e de renome internacional, além de assinalar uma interessante forma de convergência entre a arte e a comunicação
