<p> The purpose of this project was to locate a potential funding source and write a grant proposal to fund a support group for Japanese American women survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in Los Angeles County. This grant outlines a program non-shelter-based support group for survivors. The goals and objectives of the support group will be to optimize the mental health and social well being of the survivors. It is critical that this support group be located within Little Tokyo in the greater Los Angeles area to provide a degree of familiarity and comfort for the survivors. The best source of funding for the program is the Weingart Foundation because of its expertise in this field and for its ongoing work in this community. Actual submission or funding of this grant was not required for the successful completion of this project.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to locate a potential funding source and write a grant to propose funding for a mental health outreach program aimed towards increasing mental health awareness in Asian American parents. An extensive literature review was performed to understand the prevalence of mental health related issues in the Asian American community. The goals of the project are to increase mental health awareness in Los Angeles County, increase positive communication between Asian American parents and children, and to decrease mental health stigma. The outreach program seeks to achieve said goals by providing educational and informational seminars to the local schools, businesses, community centers, religious organizations and Asian radio stations. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.</p>

<p> The purpose of this grant was to design a psychoeducational workshop for South Asian immigrant families. The literature review goes over cultural factors that play a part in making the transition difficult to immigrating to a Western country. A search for potential funders was done by going on California State University Long Beach library website. This allowed the grantwriter to create a list of potential funders. The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation's focus on children, families, culture, and the underserved populations made it the best choice. The grantwriter chose to collaborate with the South Asian Network in Artesia, California. It is a nonprofit organization that has the ability to serve people in nine different languages. Actual submission of this grant was not required for the completion of this project.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to develop and write a grant proposal to secure funds on behalf of the Herald Community Center for a psycho-educational program for Chinese adults providing direct care for aging parents. The proposed program entitled Caring for You, Caring for Me will focus on Chinese caregivers residing in the San Gabriel Valley. Traditionally, families of Chinese descent encounter numerous barriers when attempting to access support services for their aging parents. These barriers can include financial strain on the family caregiver, language incompatibility with service providers, and a lack of cultural responsiveness to the needs of the Chinese older adult community. The overarching goal of the proposed program will be to decrease the burden and stress often experienced by Chinese adult children in a caregiving role. The actual submission or funding for this program was not required for the completion of this project.</p>

<p> Very little is known about individuals who identify as LGBTQ from Asian and Pacific Island descent despite the fact that Asian Pacific Americans are the fastest growing racial group in the United States. Parallel to the lack of knowledge is the lack of services for this marginalized population. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to write a grant proposal for a supportive therapeutic program for this population. The literature review indicated that Asian Pacific LGBTQ individuals encounter unique experiences compared to White counterparts. The review also explained the links between challenges and their impact on LGBTQ individuals' well-being. The negative impact from heterosexism experiences is compounded by racial minority stressors. The actual submission of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project. </p>

<p> The purpose of this research was to explore depression among older Chinese American adults. Secondary data from the California Health Interview Survey were used to explore factors that impact depression among older Chinese-American adults living in California. This study utilized several bivariate analyses to employ results including frequency, <i>t</i>-tests, one-way ANOVA, and correlation. The study found that language spoken by the respondent is directly correlated to depression. However, the study found that language barriers did not exist among the respondents within the healthcare setting due to similar languages spoken by their primary care provider. Furthermore, a significant relationship was found between older Chinese Americans and depression when the respondent had heart disease, arthritis, gout, and/or lupus. Although, there were results consistent with the literature, there were numerous insignificant relationships between the factors explored and depression.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project is to design a program, identify potential funding sources and write a grant to fund a mentoring-dropout prevention program. The mentoring-dropout prevention program targets Cambodian youth residing in the city of Long Beach, California. An extensive literature review increased awareness of the acculturative and psychosocial challenges that affect Cambodian youth and specific issues impacting the Cambodian community. Relevant theories and best practices among mentoring programs are also used to guide the planning of the proposed mentoring program. Next, a search for potential funding sources was conducted using various methods including Internet searches, grant databases and consultations with professional grant writers. The Ford Foundation was selected as the best funding source for this project. A grant proposal was then written to support the need for a culturally sensitive mentoring-dropout prevention program targeting Cambodian youth.</p><p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to partner with a host agency, locate a potential funding source, and write a grant to fund for a program called Prevention of Maltreatment to address the needs of Vietnamese families that are at risk for maltreatment. The program will be implemented at the Child Abuse Prevention Center located in Orange County, California. A literature review was conducted to examine Vietnamese families' parenting skills, understanding of child welfare system, and the barriers they encountered for child-rearing. The purpose of this Prevention of Maltreatment program is to educate Vietnamese families on child abuse, parenting tools, cultural differences and etc. The actual submission or funding of this grant was not required for the successful completion of the project.</p>

<p> The purpose of this project was to design a program, locate a potential funding source and write a grant to fund an intimate partner violence prevention program for the Korean American immigrant community in Los Angeles County. An extensive literature review was performed to investigate the prevalence and effects of intimate partner violence in the Korean immigrant community as well as identifying the need for culturally specific prevention interventions. A host agency was selected, Korean American Family Services, to propose a prevention workshop program in Los Angeles, California.</p><p> A search was conducted to locate an appropriate funder for the prevention workshops. The U.S. Department of Justice, Culturally and Linguistically Specific Services Program, was selected as a funding source for the grant program. Actual submission and/or funding of the grant was not required for the successful completion of this project.</p>
