An asessment of the educational preparation of the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine graduatesCarbajal, Virginia Isabel 16 August 2006 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the initial and actual professional
goals, the changes in initial and actual professional goals and the reasons for this change
of the different Texas A&M University veterinary medicine graduates from 1990-2002,
how satisfied the selected veterinary medicine graduates were with their veterinary
medicine college educational preparation from the graduating classes representing
1990-2002, and to determine if the top ranked courses have changed among the
veterinary medicine graduates from 1990 until 2002.
The descriptive research design included a questionnaire that was provided to
Texas A&M UniversityÂs College of Veterinary Medicine graduates one year following
graduation. Data was collected from the group of veterinarians who graduated during
1990-2002.
Findings indicate that since 1990, veterinary students have entered the College
of Veterinary Medicine with a predominant interest in small animal or mixed practices.
This study shows the stability of the career choices with mixed and small being
consistently the first and second choices over the span of years studied. No apparent trend appeared from the data that identifies one compelling reason
for changing jobs. The overall satisfaction for the educational preparation on their
education is 90% or more. The top-ranked basic science courses have not changed
among the veterinary medicine graduates during the selected period and these are:
ÂPharmacology, ÂGross Anatomy, ÂEndocrine, ÂParasitology, ÂPhysiology and
ÂClinical Pathology. The top-ranked clinical disciplines are not as clearly ranked as the
basic sciences. They are: ÂAnesthesiology, ÂGastroenterology, ÂGeneral Surgery,Â
ÂInternal Medicine, ÂOncology, and ÂRadiology. No apparent trend appeared from
the data that identifies one or the other of these categories becoming more popular over
time.

Factors Associated with school effectiveness: a study on local public educational institucions of Fortaleza - Ce.Aline Maria Gomes Lima 30 January 2012 (has links)
Know the specifics that make-up each school culture, the factors directly related and influence on student learning has became increasingly important to promote management actions of management in search of a quality education. The need to address and understand these contexts as complex generated specific studies focused on the dynamics school. Related to the social composition, from the concept of the school effectiveness. The aim this study was to investigate the characteristics related to indoor climate, administrative and educational leadership, openness of the school and the physical and organizational structure of public school of Fortaleza, with high and low performers in the Permanent System of Basic Education of Cearà â SPAECE. How specific objectives we propose: a) To diagnose the schools of high and low performance in SPAECE, in the four features observed; b) To compare the schools divided into two groups: of high and low performers; c) To propose some suggestions in the four characteristics observed for schools with low performance. For realization this study, we undertook a literature review covering theoretical axes about the history and evaluation of various models and implementation and models assessments large scale. For Brazil and the CearÃ; the Origin, history, definition and application of the concept of efficiency in Iberian America and Brazil. We high light some factors, they are: The internal environment; teaching and administrative leadership; degree of opening of the school and physical structure and organizational. This research, in nature whether qualitative and quantitative, descriptive, was conducted in twelve schools publics of Fortaleza. The data were collected across of closed questionnaires, applied to management group and the teachers. The analysis of data with the support of software package statistical for the social sciences (SPSS), made possible the quantitative study, for further qualitative analysis. The results revelead that the groups of schools with high incomes have greater homogeneity, ability to drive, leadership, unity, motivation and commitment, overcoming of difficulties, arising from lack of physical facilitates structure, that provides the facilitates achievement of quality work. The research showed the importance of this topic, because nurture meets to know the particulates of schools with low and high results in SPAECE and propose effective actions, helping to improvise the education of CearÃ.

Predictive validity of a selection battery for technikon studentsVan der Merwe, Doret 30 November 2003 (has links)
Student selection is particularly challenging in South Africa. Heterogeneous educational backgrounds require that it is necessary to assess prospective students' potential rather than their current abilities that crystallised from inadequate school education. Dynamic assessment assesses learning potential versus traditional psychometric measures, which are static measures of cognitive ability, measuring what a person has already learned.
The aim was to determine the predictive validity of a selection battery. The following predictors were included in the study; matric results, Potential Index Battery, LPCAT, bridging course status and gender. The results confirmed that static measures of intelligence and matric results showed lower predictive validity than learning potential tests. The learning potential measure appeared to be a more valid predictor of academic performance and is suitable to include in a selection battery. Gender and bridging course factors did not reflect significant differences in academic performance. There were indications that students perform better in successive years of study, once they have adjusted to tertiary education. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. Comm.
