The present work aims to analyse the concessions of Fidalgo awards of highest order (moço fidalgo [Gentleman], fidalgo escudeiro [Esquire], and fidalgo cavaleiro [Knight]) conferred by the Royal House of Portugal on individuals who fought in wars that took place in the South Atlantic between 1630 and 1660. In this period, in which the House of Braganza was standing out as a warlike and political power, such concessions were one of the elements that formed their remuneration policy. Therefore, in order to fulfil the objective of this work, the Fidalgo awards conferred between 1660 and the early 1680s have been taken into consideration. Our explanatory chart is the result of an analysis of treatises on nobility, chronicles of war, literary compositions and, above all, administrative documentation, viz. clearances from the Order of Christ and deeds of concession of Fidalgo awards. Such corpus has allowed us create a profile of these rewards to offer, given the patterns found, auxiliary aid for the comprehension of spatial hierarchies and the circulation of people in the Portuguese Empire.
